Abstract
Today, football have become an important industry with the broadcast revenues, matchday revenues, advertising agreements, sponsorship agreements, contracts signed with football players and interaction with other industries. Football was considered as a leisure activity in the period when it first emerged. The commercialization of football has become a reality only with its becoming a professional profession, the release of wages, advertising agreements and sponsorships. Developments in the broadcasting industry after the 1980s caused a significant change in the structure of football. Media organizations have started to acquire the broadcasting rights of football leagues in order to profit from the high viewing of football. In addition, with the increasing popularity of football, many companies have almost entered the sponsorship race. In addition, the construction of smart and modern stadiums has made it easier for football to become an industry. These factors led to an increase in revenues in the football economy. In this study, the factors influencing the industrialization process of football were examined and the matchday revenues, commercial revenues and broadcasting revenues of Europe's five major leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1) and Turkish Super League for 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons were compared. With the research, it was seen that broadcasting revenues constitute the highest revenue item in the five major leagues of Europe and the Super League. It was observed that the matchday revenues increased in the 2018-2019 season compared to the 2017-2018 season, and the highest increase among the analyzed leagues was in the Super League.
