Abstract

Oncoplastic surgery (OPS) combines cancer resection surgery with plastic surgery to achieve better cosmetic results. The life expectancy of breast cancer patients has been prolonged with existing treatments. As a result of this, the cosmetic expectation of patients has become increasingly important. The variety of OPS techniques available for breast cancer allows individualized surgical treatment for each patient diagnosed with breast cancer. Level I OPS can be performed by all breast surgeons without any training in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Glandular shaping is a technique that can be used at level I OPS. For better cosmetic results, sometimes it may be necessary to add the nipple-areola complex reposition to the glandular shaping technique. Tumor size, excision volume, tumor localization, glandular density, and radiotherapy are important criteria for determining the OPS technique in patients. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
