Abstract

This paper evaluates the usage of the Geographic Markup Language (GML) in Turkey and essential subjects of the interoperability concept in Turkey for the future. Geography Markup Language-GML was developed by Open GIS Consortium-OGC. OGC presented GM L based upon the technology of Extensible Markup Language-XML developed by World Wide Web Consortium-W3C. It was planned to constitute a layer for land registry and cadastral data at studies of INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) that adopted OGC standards. Digital land registry and cadastral sheets in Turkey have to be encoded according to an application schema prepared using GML schemas developed with XML technology that is among the information technology tools supporting the open source and interoperability. In particular, it focuses on determining the usage of GML in Turkey for Land registry and cadastral data and what measures must be taken to deal with the difficulty that will be opposed in the future.
