Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of different surface preparation methods on color both in natural glaze (high temperature glaze) and over glaze (low temperature glaze) in ceramic restorations. Material and Method: For this study, 50 disc shaped, metal substructures (Remanium CS, Dentaurum, Pfrozheim, Germany) with a diameter of 1 cm and a thickness of 1.5 mm were prepared. A2 dentin ceramic (Ceramco II, Ceramco Inc., State, USA) was applied on metal substructures in a special mold with a final thickness of 3 mm. Specimen were divided into 5 groups and diamond bur, diamond bur+stone, diamond bur+stone+rubber, diamond bur+stone+sand paper and diamond bur+stone+sandblasting surface preparation methods were applied to all samples. Then, each group were divided into two subgroups and natural glaze and over glaze were applied (n=5). Surface roughness values (Ra) were measured and recorded by Atomic Force Microscope before and after glazing. Color measurements were also conducted by spectrophotometer before and after glazing and ∆E values were calculated. All data were analyzed with one way ANOVA (p=0.05). In the natural glaze group with variance homogeneity, Bonferroni test and in the over glaze group without variance homogeneity, Dunnet C test was used to analyze the groups. Results and Conclusion: It was determined that there was no significant difference between the color values obtained by using different surface preparation methods in over glaze group. It was observed that surface preparation methods had a significant effect on color in natural glaze group (p<0.05). © 2020, Nobelmedicus. All rights reserved.
