Abstract
THE EFFECT OF CARE-FOCUSED NURSE-PATIENT INTERACTION ON PATIENT SATISFACTION IN SURGICAL CLINICS In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of care-oriented nurse-patient interaction on patient satisfaction in surgical clinics. In addition, it was also examined whether the positive nurse-patient interaction and patient satisfaction levels perceived by the patients differ significantly according to the socio-demographic characteristics of the patients. In line with these objectives, this study was conducted in the relational screening model. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 143 participants selected by convenience sampling method among the inpatients between January 17 and February 07, 2024 in the surgical clinics of five hospitals in Istanbul province of a private health group operating in Turkey. The data were collected with the Care-Focused Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale and the Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Care Scale. The data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS v26 program. As a result of the regression analysis performed in the study, it was determined that care-oriented nurse-patient interaction had a positive and significant effect on patient satisfaction. Similarly, in the dimensional analyses, it was determined that all dimensions of care-oriented nurse-patient interaction (clinical care, relational care, humanistic care and comforting care) had positive, moderate and significant effects on patient satisfaction. On the other hand, as a result of t-test and ANOVA analyses, it was determined that the positive nurse-patient interaction and patient satisfaction levels perceived by the patients did not differ significantly according to their socio-demographic characteristics (gender, age, marital status, educational status, length of hospitalization). This study shows that care-oriented nurse-patient interaction in surgical clinics has a significant effect on patient satisfaction.
