Abstract
With today's developing technology, the energy requirement for countries has become increasingly important. For this reason, the domestic energy use rates of countries are emerging as a factor that increases the economic independence and strategic power by contributing positively to the development of the industrial sector. Fossil energy sources cause air pollution as well as both increased production costs and occupational accidents because of increasing access difficulties to the remaining reserves. Nevertheless, fossil energy sources are still of great importance in terms of domestic energy use. It is seen that the most abundant fossil energy source in Turkey is coal. In this study, the location of the coal in Turkey's energy production and consumption is examined. The profit-loss analysis was conducted by examining the relationship between coal production costs in the country and the benefits derived from domestic consumption. © 2018 Elsevier Inc.
