Abstract
The highest level of service quality is realized in the health institutions with the collaboration of the nurses and physicians who are the most important members of the health team. According to this fact, satisfaction increases in patients who receive service from the institution. This study was planned as a descriptive study to evaluate the collaboration between nurses and physicians, and to investigate the relationship between collaboration and job satisfaction levels of them. This research was carried out on the sample that consisted of nurses and physicians working in two public hospitals in two different provinces in South East Anatolia. The universe of the study was consisted of 1099 nurses and physicians who were working in these two hospitals. It was determined that there should be 246 physicians and nurses from the first institution with an acceptable error rate 0.05 and 240 physicians and nurses from the second institution, and 275 people from the first institution and 275 people from the second institution were included to the study sample. Study was carried out on a sample consisted 535 nurses and physicians. Data were collected by a survey including a twelve itemed questionnaire, Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration which had been developed to evaluate the level of physician and nurse collaboration and Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire which had been developed to evaluate the level of job satisfaction. The mean total score was 45.71±6.03 for physicians and 49.46±5.52 for nurses for the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration. The mean total scores of the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire were67.81±14.36 for physicians and 59.31±11,80 for nurses. The correlation coefficients, which shows the relationship between the scales were r= -.180 for physicians and r=.125 for nurses. As a result of the study, it was determined that as the level of collaboration of the physicians increased, the job satisfaction decreased and oppositely the job satisfaction increased as the level of cooperation increased in the nurses.
