Abstract
Several major changes have been affecting the electric power sector both in the developed and developing countries. One of these is the introduction of Smart Grid technologies in transmission distribution networks. With significant investments in "smart" grids around the globe, deployment of such technologies have major impacts in defining evolution of the electric power sector and how it is operated. These technologies will also affect the environmental and developmental impact of the electric power delivery and services. This paper outlines the responsibilities and roles of the regulative authorities in shaping the smart grid initiatives.
