Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of the feelings of inferiority in the relationship between Hypersensitive Narcissism and Self-Sabotage. The sample of the study consists of 391 undergraduate, graduate and PhD students between the ages of 18-30, living and studying at a university in Istanbul, Turkey. Research data were obtained by applying the Socio-Demographic Information Form, Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale, Self-Sabotage Scale, and Inferiority Feeling Scale and then were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 25.0 program. Descriptive analysis of the the demographic factors revealed significant differences in the level of hypersensitive narcissism of the participants based on their age and education On the other hand, a significant difference of self-sabotage was found among the participants with different levels of education. When the general inferiority feeling and its subscales (Discouragement, Negation of Self Value, Useless Superiority Effort) were taken into consideration, the study results showed significant differences in the levels of general feeling of inferiority and discouragement between genders and the location where the participants spent most of their lifetime. Lastly, the level of useless superiority effort has a significant difference according to the education and the place where most of lifetime has spent. It was observed that there were no significant effects of the level of income on the research variables. According to the findings obtained from the relationships between variables, the results showed that there were positive and moderately strong, significant relationships between hypersensitive narcissism and self-sabotage, feeling of inferiority and with its subscales. It was also observed that there was a positive, moderately strong and significant relationship between self-sabotage and feeling of inferiority with all subscales. When the mediated effects were examined; it was found that feeling of inferiority and all its subscales have partial mediating effects between the hypersensitive narcissism and self-sabotage.
