Abstract
Anterior openbite can be treated with various approaches. The treatment is based on the malocclusion’s etiologic traits. Treatment of dental anterior openbite focuses on eruption of anterior teeth. Skeletal anterior openbite is generally treated by intruding the maxillary posterior dentoalveolar segments, which are overerupted. This treatment approach leads to a displacement of the tongue’s root downward, positions the tongue downward and backward, and corrects the altered functional matrix. Subsequently, the mandible rotates counterclockwise and the openbite closes. The intrusion of the maxillary posterior teeth have been achieved with orthognathic surgery for many years. However, with the introduction of temporary anchorage devices in orthodontics, minimally invasive treatment options became possible for the treatment of anterior openbite. This chapter aims to describe the skeletal openbite treatment with the new generation openbite appliance (OBA) and zygomatic anchorage, which can be an alternative to orthognathic surgery. Moreover, cases treated with this technique are presented. © 2021 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
