Abstract
Municipalities are the main application areas for urban planners in Turkey. The aim of this research is to discuss the importance and role of municipalities in the education related to urban planning. A survey for the planning students has been made for this study. In survey process, relational scanning method applying Microsoft Excel program is used. The target population of the study comprises 100 students of urban planning departments of different universities continuing their practical internships in municipalities of different cities in Turkey. The conclusion reached is that municipalities have an educative role in the professional improvement of students. But also, the political land use decision making process of the municipality is difficult to understand in the internship process. © SGEM2013 All Rights Reserved by the International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference SGEM.
