    ORGANIZATIONAL AND PERSONAL FACTORS AFFECTING THE CAREER DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION ADMINISTRATORS: FOUNDATION UNIVERSITY SAMPLE

    Studies about higher education management tend to ignore the analysis of career development of higher education administrators and the factors affecting their decision to accept or not to accept the position. However; the factors affecting the administrators to accept the position not only determine their management styles but also affect the quality of education. The purpose of this study is to examine the organizational and personal factors affecting the career development of higher education administrators. Organizational factors include economic and political/ideological factors whereas personal factors include educational, sociological and physiological/psychological factors. Qualitative research design was chosen in conducting this study. An interview form with 5 related questions was used Within this context, 14 head of department from 3 foundation universities in Turkey who worked during 2017-2018 school year constituted the study group, interviews were made. According to results revealed by the study, while political/ideological, educational and physiological/psychological factors affect the career development of higher education administrators, economical and sociological factors do not affect their career development.

    Student Teachers' Perceptions of Bullying in Schools

    The purpose of the study is to investigate and provide insights into the problems concerning school bullying. The objective of the research was to investigate the following issues like What kinds of behaviors are defined as bullying by student teachers?, How frequently do students engage in bullying behaviors?, Where do these behaviors most commonly take place in a typical school environment?, and How do student teachers deal with incidents of bullying? The present study applies a quantitative research design. To formulate availability sampling, student teachers were selected from the teaching certificate program in Yildiz Technical University. A total of 400 student teachers participated in the study. The study explored that verbal bullying appeared the Most often perceived by the student teachers followed by emotional bullying as compared to physical bullying, and finally sexual bullying, was the least observed type of bullying.

    ÜNİVERSİTE BÖLÜM BAŞKANLARININ ÇATIŞMA YÖNETİMİ STİLLERİ İLE AKADEMİK PERSONELİN İŞ DOYUM DÜZEYLERİ ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİ

    Bu çalışmada, üniversitelerdeki akademik personelin bölüm başkanlarının kullandıkları çatışma yönetimi stillerine ilişkin algıları ile iş doyum düzeyleri belirlenmiş ve bölüm başkanlarının kullandıkları çatışma yönetimi stilleri ile akademik personelin iş doyum düzeyleri arasındaki ilişki, devlet ve vakıf üniversiteleri bazında incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma evrenini, İstanbul ilinde bünyesinde fakülte barındıran 13 devlet 44 vakıf üniversitesinde görevli akademisyenlerin tamamı; örneklemini ise, oranlı küme örnekleme yöntemi ile belirlenmiş 2 devlet 6 vakıf üniversitesi akademisyenleri oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre, hem devlet hem de vakıf üniversitelerinde görevli akademik personelin çatışma yönetimi stillerinden tümleştirme, ödün verme, kaçınma ve uzlaşma algısı arttıkça iç, dış ve genel iş doyumu düzeylerinin arttığı; buna karşın hükmetme algısı arttıkça iç, dış ve genel iş doyumu düzeylerinin azalmakta olduğu görülmüştür. Araştırmaya katılan devlet ve vakıf üniversitelerinde görevli akademisyenlerin, bölüm başkanlarının tercih ettiği çatışma yönetimi stilleri algıları arasında istatistiksel olarak manidar bir farklılık olmadığı görülmüş, söz konusu stillere ilişkin algıların benzer olduğu saptanmıştır. Aynı durum iş doyumu algılarında da tespit edilmiştir. Bu sonuçlar, hem çatışma yönetimi stilleri hem de iş doyumu algılarında bağlı bulunulan yükseköğretim kurumunun türü ile ilgili istatistiksel bakımdan anlamlı bir farklılık olmadığını ortaya çıkarmıştır.

    VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS' PERCEPTIONS OF ORGANIZATIONAL SILENCE

    This study was conducted to determine the organizational silence perceptions of teachers who work in public high schools in the Bagcilar district, Istanbul province of Turkey, and to specify whether they differ according to different variables. The survey model was used in the study. The research was performed with 323 teachers working in vocational high schools in the Bagcilar district of Istanbul in the 2017-2018 academic year. In the study, the random sampling method was employed. The "Personal Information Form" and "Organizational Silence Scale" were used as data collection tools. In the research, descriptive statistics, the independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and the Kruskal-Wallis test were performed. The general organizational silence perceived by vocational high school teachers was found to be "low." It was revealed that the perceived organizational silence of vocational high school teachers did not vary by gender, educational level, professional seniority, subject, and union membership, while the perceived general organizational silence varied depending on age.
