Article Citation Count: 0Channels of being informed about kidney transplantation centers for patients with end stage kidney disease(Aves, 2012) Gurkan, Alp; Gürkan, Alp; Tilif, Suleyman; Gul, Yeliz; Genel Cerrahi / General SurgeryPurpose: There are around 60,000 patients going through dialysis in our country. Although there are numerous successful transplant teams, the number of transplantations achieved has not reached the desired level. For this reason, kidney transplantation centers which keep increasing in number, have started different activities to inform these patients about the kidney transplantation. In our study, the patients having applied to three of the transplant centers in Istanbul were observed on how efficacious the activities were on the subjects. Patients and method: Patients having applied to the transplant centers in A (n: 1314), B (n: 27) and C (n: 229) hospitals, in the period between January 2, 2008 and December 31, 2010 were investigated by the organ transplant coordinators about how they were informed about these centers. In this study, it was observed that the patients got to know about the centers through dialysis centers stuffs, nephrologists, other patients, media and internet, etc. sources. We investigated on the differences these sources created in the different hospitals. In addition to these, on July 1, 2010; a website was established by A hospital with the same purpose. Also, the effect of this site in referring patients to the clinic was investigated. Results: We found out that patients were informed about organ transplantation centers from other patients, who have had organ transplantation (40.6%); dialysis centers (32.9%), media (9.6%), nephrologists (8.0%), internet (5.2%) and others (3.6%) (p=0.011). In A hospital, the mean average application number which was 34.6 patients/month went up to 44.5 patients/month after the establishment of the website. The website was found to be the only reason for the increase. Conclusion: Besides the mentioned factors; the internet which lately plays a great role in our daily life, also becomes an important guide for information for patients who want to have organ transplantation.Conference Object Citation Count: 0NURSES IN A STATE HOSPITAL VIEWS ON QUALITY IN HEALTH AND QUALITY PRACTICES IN THEIR HOSPITAL(Pressacademia, 2015) Ikiz, Yasemin; Gulhan, Yildirim B.In order to attain the quality at health institutions, it is one of the overemphasized issues that knowing what does quality mean, what is its aim and it does not only base on the patients but also the staff working there. This research aims to search the opinions of the nurses about the quality applications and quality works carried out at their hospitals and make up the noticed deficiencies by determining the situations that prevent their adaptation to quality and accordingly to make contribution to eliminate the problems that can be seen as an obstacle on nurse basis in order to reach the intended level in service quality objectives. The starting question of this research is "What are the main factors that affect the opinions of the nurses about the quality works in health care?" The researcher has conducted a questionnaire for this research over 110 nurses who are working in a public hospital. The data collected during the research has been analyzed via SPSS 15.0 program. The overall reliability of the scale is 0.89 according to the reliability analysis. In this research, it has been determined that while grade point average of the nurses about quality in health care services is in mid -level, general point average of the quality works at their hospitals is low. It has been observed that there is no difference between the attitudes of male and female nurses towards the quality works in health care services, works in quality process improvement and their attitudes related to opinions and requests about the quality works. Moreover, the attitudes of the nurses, who are between the ages of 26-35 years old, towards the quality applications in health care services are higher than the attitudes of the nurses aged 45 and over. The attitudes of married nurses towards the works carried out for quality process improvement are higher than the attitudes of the single nurses. It has become evident that the attitudes of the nurses working in the administrative units towards the quality process improvement works carried out at their hospitals are higher than the attitudes of the nurses working in surgery room. It has been observed that as long as the average age of the nurses increases their attitudes to quality applications in health care service decreases. It does not affect the attitudes of the nurses towards the quality applications in health care service whether they have (receive) quality education or not. However, it has been determined that while the attitudes of the nurses that have quality education towards the opinions and requests for quality works are high, the attitudes of the nurses that do not have (receive) quality education in health towards the quality improvement works are not high.Article Citation Count: 32The relationship of sleep problems to life quality and depression(Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital, 2015) Sariarslan, Haci A.; Gulhan, Yildirim B.; Unalan, Demet; Basturk, Mustafa; Delibas, SenolObjective: To identify the level of depression, the level of life quality, and the relationship between these, in patients applying to sleep centers for various sleep problems. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 229 patients who applied for polysomnography at sleeping centers under supervision of the Neurology and Chest Diseases Clinics of Kayseri Education and Research Hospital, Kayseri, Turkey between June and August 2013. The data collection tools were a socio-demographical data form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL-BREF). For statistical analyses, the Student t-test, Kruskal-Wallis-variant analysis, and chi-square tests were used. Significance level was considered as p<0.05. Results: In our study, patients who were older aged, married, not working, and who had a chronic disease, and a severe depressive symptom were observed to have significantly poorer sleep quality. While patients with any chronic disease had significantly higher scores for total PSQI and depression, their physical, mental, and social WHOQOL-BREF scores were significantly lower. The PSQI total scores, and depression scores of the smoking patients were significantly higher for physical, mental, and social WHOQOL-BREF fields. There was a positive correlation between PSQI scores and BDI scores while there was a negative correlation among BDI, PSQL and WHOQOL-BREF life quality sub-scale scores. Conclusions: Sleep quality was significantly poorer in patients who were older aged, married, not working, and who had a chronic disease, and a severe depressive symptom. There was a significantly negative correlation among depression, sleep quality, and life quality, while there was a significantly positive correlation between life quality and depression.
