Control of mechatronic systems

This book introduces researchers and advanced students with a basic control systems background to an array of control techniques which they can easily implement and use to meet the required performance specifications for their mechatronic applications. It is the result of close to two decades of work of the authors on modeling, simulating and controlling different mechatronic systems from the motion control, automotive control and micro and nano-mechanical systems control areas. The methods presented in the book have all been tested by the authors and a very large group of researchers, who have produced practically implementable controllers with highly successful results. The approach that is recommended in this book is to first start with a conventional control method which may then be cascaded with a feedforward controller if the input is known or can be measured with a preview; to add a disturbance observer if unknown disturbances are to be rejected and if regulation of the uncertain plant about a nominal model is desired; and to add a repetitive controller to take care of any periodic inputs of fixed and known period. Case studies ranging from road vehicle yaw stability control and automated path following, to decoupling control of piezotube actuators in an atomic force microscope are presented. Parameter space based methods are used in the book for achieving robust controllers. Control of Mechatronic Systems is essential reading for researchers and advanced students who want to be exposed to control methods that have been field tested in a wide variety of mechatronic applications, and for practicing engineers who design and implement feedback control systems. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2017.
Politics of favoritism in public procurement in Turkey: Reconfigurations of dependency networks in the AKP era

This book, through an analysis of 49,355 high value public procurement contracts awarded between 2004 and 2011, provides systematic evidence on favoritism in public procurement in Turkey. Public procurement is one of the main areas where the government and the private sector interact extensively and is thus open to favoritism and corruption. In Turkey, the new Public Procurement Law, which was drafted with the pull of the EU-IMF-WB nexus, has been amended more than 150 times by the AKP government. In addition to examining favoritism, this book also demonstrates how the legal amendments have increased the use of less competitive procurement methods and discretion in awarding contracts. The results reveal that the AKP majority government has used public procurement as an influential tool both to increase its electoral success, build its own elites and finance politics. The use of public procurement for rent creation and distribution is found to be particularly extensive in the construction and the services sector through the TOKİ projects and the Municipal procurements. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s) 2016.
The quantum mechanical framework behind the end results of the general theory of relativity: Matter is built on a universal matter architecture

This book provides a new approach toward the end results of the General Theory of Relativity (GTR), based on the law conservation of energy, though in the broader sense of the concept of 'energy', thus embodying the mass and energy equivalence of the Special Theory of Relativity (STR). Thereby, the approach is solely based on the relativisitic law of conservaiton of energy (excluding the necessity of assuming the 'principle of equivalence' of the GTR). The basic theorem the author proves, says that if in a relativistic or non-relativistic quantum mechanical description, composed properly, the mass of the object at hand is multiplied by an arbitrary number, then the total energy of it, is multiplied by the same number, and its size is divided by this number. This book presents data which concludes that the quantum mechanical invariance of the quantity energy x mass x size2 - with respect to a mass change introduced in the original wavelike description of the object - is the fundamental basis of a universal matter architecture (UMA), and well insures the end results of the GTR. © 2010 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. Wealth, welfare and the global free market: A social audit of capitalist economics
