Abstract
Johannes Brahms Romantik Dönem'in en önemli bestecilerinden biridir.
Johannes Brahms is one of the most important composers of the Romantic Period. Sonata op. 38, written for Cello and Piano, is considered one of the composer's masterpieces. This sonata is among the sonatas that brought a different perspective to the chamber music tradition, in which the piano was also brought to the fore. A large literature review was conducted for the research. In addition, every movement of the sonata has been studied musically. The examinations were made in terms of form and harmony. Dynamics and tempos were specified and how both instruments were highlighted in each movement was mentioned. In the light of these determinations, It was concluded that the composer cared about the piano as much as the cello, he composed both instruments by considering them equally and he wrote the sonata by considering the form and harmonic features of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic Periods. In this thesis, besides being an accompaniment instrument, attention has been drawn to the aspects of the piano that have soloistic features. After analyzing the sonata, necessary and useful suggestions on how to interpret a pianist are presented. These suggestions arose from my personal experiences, especially the situations I encountered in stage performances and my search solutions to the difficulties I faced while performing the piece. While making suggestions, the important of fingerings, articulation and dynamics are mentioned, how the signs are written in the edition should be interpreted and suggestions that were not written in the edition but were observed to provide convenience in practice were added. In addition to the analysis of the Cello Piano Sonata op. 38, the performance recording of the sonata is also presented with the thesis. Thus, my colleagues who want to benefit from the suggestions will be able to listen to the performance recording and observe how the suggestions made during the performance. In summary; while performing the sonata, solutions were produced to solve the problems faced by pianists in practice.
