Comparison of Motor Competence, Social Skills, and Academic Achievement of Primary School Students with Specific Learning Disabilities and Their Typically Developing Peers
Abstract
This study examines the motor competence, social skills, and academic achievement levels of primary school students with specific learning disabilities (SLD) in comparison to their typically developing peers. Additionally, it evaluates whether these variables differ according to demographic characteristics. The study was conducted with 234 students aged 7-10 years attending primary schools and special education and rehabilitation centers in Bursa, Turkey. Data collection tools included a personal information form, end-of-term report card grades, the 'Social Skills Rating System,' and the 'Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency- BOT2.' The research findings revealed significant differences between students with SLD and their typically developing peers and demonstrated that demographic variables have an impact on these areas. The study aims to contribute to the literature by highlighting the effects of individual and environmental factors on the social, motor, and academic development of students with SLD
