Examination of Parenting Role Self-Perceptions and Burnout Levels of Mothers with Children with Autism

Abstract

Otizmli Çocuğa Sahip Annelerin Ebeveynlik Rolü Kendilik Algılar ı ve Tükenmişlik Düzeylerinin İncelenmesi Bu araştırmanı amacı otizmli çocuğa sahip annelerin tükenmişlik düzeylerini ve ebeveynlik rolü kendilik algılarının incelenmesidir. Araştırma İstanbul İli Kağıthane İlçesinde bulunan özel eğitim kurumlarında eğitim almakta olan Otizm tanılı çocuğa sahip 151 annenin katılımıyla gerçekleşmiştir. Araştırmada veriler; araştırmacının oluşturduğu Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Maslach Tükenmişlik Ölçeği ve Ebeveyn Rolü Kendilik Algısı Ölçekleri kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre annelerin tükenmişlik ölçeği alt ve toplam puanlarının annelerin öğrenim durumu, çocuk sayısı, medeni durumu, çalışma durumu, tanı öncesi çalışma durumu; çocuğun cinsiyeti, doğum sırası ve gibi değişkenlere göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı analiz edilmiştir ve aralarında anlamlı bir fark bulunamamıştır. Ancak tükenmişlik ölçeği alt ve toplam puanlarının annenin ve çocuğun yaşı ve özel eğitim alma süresi arasında anlamlı bir fark olduğu belirlenmiştir. Annelerin ebeveynlik rolü ve kendilik algıları incelendiğinde annenin yaşı, öğrenim durumu, medeni durumu, çalışma durumu, tanı almadan önceki çalışma durumu, çocuğun yaşı, cinsiyeti ve özel eğitim alma süresi değişkenine bağlı olarak farklılaşma görülüp görülmediği incelenerek, aralarında anlamlı olarak bir farklılık olmadığı ancak çocuk sayısı ve doğum sırası arsında anlamlı fark olduğu belirlenmiştir. Examination of Parenting Role Self-Perceptions and Burnout Levels of Mothers with Children with Autism The aim of this study is to examine the burnout levels and parental role self-perceptions of mothers who have children with autism. The study has been conducted with the participation of 151 mothers of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder who receive education in special education and rehabilitation centers located in Kağıthane District of Istanbul Province. The data have been collected using the Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher and Maslach Burnout Scale and Parental Role Self-Perception Scales. According to the results of the study, when the burnout levels of the mothers have been examined, it has been examined whether the total and subscale scores differed according to the mother's educational status, marital status, employment status, gender of the child, number of children, birth order and duration of receiving special education, and it has been determined that there was no significant difference between them.When it has examined whether burnout total and subscale scores differed according to the variables of mother's age and child's age, it has been determined that there was a significant difference between them.When the parenting role and self-perceptions of the mothers have examined, it has been examined whether there was a difference according to the mother's age, educational status, marital status, employment status, employment status before diagnosis, age, gender of the child and duration of receiving special education, and it has determined that there was no significant difference between them. When it has been examined whether there was a significant difference between the number of children and birth order variables, it has been determined that there was a significant difference between the parenting role and self-perception.
