Abstract
Research and theories reveal the importance of marital relationships and co-parenting levels in children's development. The results of the researches conducted to clarify the areas it affects and its unknown aspects are effective in understanding its importance. The important impact of co-parenting on both marital relationships and parenting practices has increasingly recognized and acknowledged and it has found its place in the literature as a comprehensive system that begins with marital health and continues with the processes of co-parenting. The aim of the research is to determine whether there is a significant relationship between marital satisfaction and levels of co-parenting among parents whose marriages are still ongoing and who have children aged 0-18. The pattern of the research involves correlational survey model, which is used within the quantitative paradigm. The survey model is set up to determine the relationship between two or more variables and establish a cause-and-effect relationship among these variables. The study group of research consist of 401 parents who are residents of the Republic of Turkey, Turkish citizens and have children aged between 0-18 and whose marriage is still ongoing. Data collection was carried out using an online survey form that included the 'Personal Information Form' developed by the researcher together with the 'Marital Satisfaction Scale' developed by Canel (2007) and the 'Co-Parenting Scale' developed Özdemir and colleagues (2021) as the quantitative data collection tool. IBM SPSS-27.0 was used for the analysis of the obtained data. Pearson Correlation Analysis was executed to test the linear relationship between variables and determine the degree of correlation. T-tests and ANOVA were performed to examine the differences created by the independent variable on the dependent variable. Due to the significant differences observed on ANOVA test, Scheffe test was preferred for pairwise comparisons. Based on the analysis, it was observed that variables such as gender, number of marriages, place of residence, type of marriage, child's gender, and child's age did not have a significant impact in marital satisfaction. However, it was found that the age of the participating parent, age of marriage, educational level, average income level of the family, duration of marriage, and age difference between spouses had a significant impact in marital satisfaction. In terms of the levels of co-parenting, no significant differences were found for variables such as gender, age of parent, place of residence, duration of marriage, partner selection, age at marriage, number of children, child's age, child's gender, and type of marriage. However, significant differences were observed for variables such as educational level, income level, age difference between spouses, and number of marriages. Furthermore, it has been determined that parents' marital satisfaction relates to their levels of co-parenting. The findings of this study and other studies in the literature indicate that marital satisfaction and co-parenting play a significant role in the healthy functioning of family systems.
