Article Citation Count: 0A 3-year-old child with multi-drug resistant epilepsy responding to pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2023) Coskun, Yesim; Yildirim, CananIntroduction: Despite the development of new antiseizure drugs (ASDs), around one third of epilepsy patients become refractory to treatment or experience adverse events due to ASDs. Therefore, discovery of new ASDs and new therapy options are crucial to improve the quality of life. Herein, we report a 3-year-old child with multi-drug resistant epilepsy caused by perinatal asphyxia whose seizures were reduced by 90% after the introduction of ketogenic diet, vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) AspireSR (SR-seizure response) and oral cannabidiol.Case presentation: A 9-month-old female infant had a history of multidrug resistant epilepsy due to perinatal asphyxia. At admission, she was experiencing up to 20-25 seizures per day lasting for 2-3 minutes. In addition to antiseizure drugs (ASDs), she was put on ketogenic diet (KD), vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) aspire seizure response (AspireSR) was inserted and oral cannabidiol (CBD) was started sequentially. This review explores the fundamentals of MXenes and their composites, examining their unique characteristics and the underlying principles of their synthesis and processing. We highlight the transformative potential of 3D and 4D printing techniques in tailoring MXene-based materials for a wide array of applications. In the field of tissue regeneration, MXene composites offer enhanced biocompatibility and mechanical strength, making them ideal for scaffolds and implants. For drug delivery, the high surface area and tunable surface chemistry of MXenes enable precise control over drug release profiles. In energy storage, MXene-based electrodes exhibit superior conductivity and capacity, paving the way for next-generation batteries and supercapacitors. Additionally, the sensitivity and selectivity of MXene composites make them excellent candidates for various (bio)sensing applications, from environmental monitoring to biomedical diagnostics. By integrating the dynamic capabilities of 4D printing, which introduces time-dependent shape transformations, MXene-based composites can further adapt to complex and evolving functional requirements. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of research, identifies key challenges, and discusses future directions for the development and application of 3D and 4D printed MXene-based composites. Through this exploration, we aim to underscore the significant impact of these advanced materials and technologies on diverse scientific and industrial fields. Materials and MethodsFinite element analysis (FEA) was used to investigate the influence of different dowel designs on the stress distribution of zirconia dowels. The coronal diameter of the dowel was 2.2 mm, the apical diameter was 1.8 mm, and the length was 15 mm. The diameter of the hollow space was 1.2 mm. Occlusal forces (both parallel and oblique) of 100 N were applied from the wider edge of the dowels simulating loads acting on the incisor during clenching and incising. The results were expressed in terms of von Mises criteria. ResultsFEA revealed differences in stress distribution. During parallel load, the maximum tensile stress of the hollow design (89.40 MPa) was greater than the solid design (43.30 MPa). During oblique load, the maximum tensile stress of the hollow design (1437.90 MPa) was greater than the solid design (917.96 MPa). The maximum deformation was observed in the coronal part of the dowel in both designs under the two load directions. B.; Kazazoglu, E.; Periodontoloji / PeriodontologyObjectives The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress distribution on different thicknesses of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) placed on various widths of pulp perforations during the condensation of the composite resin material. Materials and methods The mandibular molar tooth was modeled by COSMOSWorks program (SolidWorks, Waltham, MA). Three finite elemental analysis models representing 3 different dimensions of pulp perforations, 1, 2, and 3 mm in diameter, were created. The perforation area was assumed as filled with MTA with different thicknesses, 1, 2, and 3 mm for each pulp perforation width, creating a total of 9 different models. Then, a composite resin material was layered on MTA for each model. A 66.7 N load was applied and an engineering simulation program (ANSYS, Canonsburg, US) was used for the analysis. Results were presented considering von Mises stress criteria. Results As MTA thickness increased, the stress values recorded within the area between pulp and MTA decreased. Strain was decreased when the thickness of MTA increased. Conclusions Stresses at MTA-pulp interface and strain on MTA decreased with the increase in MTA thickness.Article Citation Count: 05-Year clinical performance of ceramic onlay and overlay restorations luted with light-cured composite resin(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2024) Yurdaguven, Gulsah Yenier; Çiftçioğlu, Elif; Kazokoglu, Fatma Sehnaz; Kayahan, Mehmet Baybora; Endodonti / EndodonticsObjectives: This prospective clinical trial evaluated the clinical performance of ceramic partial coverage indirect adhesive restorations (PCIARs) in posterior teeth luted with a light-cured composite resin. Methods: From April 2016 to January 2017, a total of 60 patients (27 males, 33 females; mean age: 42.2 +/- 10.86 years old) received 83 glass-ceramic PCIARs (26 onlay, 57 overlay) made of IPS Emax CAD (Ivoclar Vivadent). All restorations were luted with a light-cured composite resin (Filtek Z250, 3 M ESPE) by two operators. Two independent calibrated examiners blinded to the operators performing the treatment evaluated the restorations at baseline, 1-year, and 5-year following FDI World Dental Federation criteria including esthetic, functional, and biological properties. Data were analyzed with the Friedman test and the Wilcoxon sign test (p p < 0.05). Results: None of the restorations failed due to fracture or retention loss. One restoration was clinically unsatisfactory because of secondary caries. Marginal staining (p:0.000), marginal adaptation (p:0.018) showed significant differences between 1-year and 5-year recall. Conclusions: The PCIARs demonstrated excellent clinical performance at 1-year period. The degradation parameters appeared as minor staining and minor irregularities after 5-year, without any affect on the clinical performance.Article Citation Count: 11Accuracy of Digital Impressions Obtained Using Six Intraoral Scanners in Partially Edentulous Dentitions and the Effect of Scanning Sequence(Quintessence Publishing Co inc, 2021) Diker, Burcu; Tak, OnjenPurpose: To compare the accuracy of six intraoral scanners in two different partially edentulous maxillary models and to evaluate the effect of scanning sequence on accuracy. Materials and Methods: Maxillary Kennedy Class I and Class IV situations were used as reference models. The reference datasets were obtained by scanning the models using a highly accurate industrial scanner (ATOS Core 80, GOM). The following six intraoral scanners were evaluated: Trios 3 (3Shape), iTero Element 2 (Align Technology), Emerald (Planmeca), CEREC Omnicam (Dentsply Sirona), CEREC Primescan (Dentsply Sirona), and Virtuo Vivo (Dental Wings). A total of 120 scans from both models were obtained using the six intraoral scanners and divided into two groups based on scanning sequence. Accuracy was evaluated by deviation analysis using 3D image processing software (Geomagic Studio 12, 3D Systems). Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were performed (P <= .05) for statistical analysis. Results: There were significant differences in the accuracy of digital impressions among intraoral scanners and scanning sequences. The trueness of the Trios scanner and the precision of the Trios, Primescan, and iTero scanners were significantly higher than for the other scanners. The Emerald had the lowest accuracy among the six intraoral scanners tested. Accuracy was affected by scanning sequence when using the Virtuo Vivo, Emerald, Primescan, and iTero. Conclusion: In Kennedy Class I and Class IV partially edentulous cases, it is useful to consider that the intraoral scanner used may affect the accuracy of the digital impression.Article Citation Count: 21Accuracy of six intraoral scanners for scanning complete-arch and 4-unit fixed partial dentures: An in vitro study(Mosby-elsevier, 2022) Diker, Burcu; Tak, OnjenStatement of problem. The digital scan accuracy of different intraoral scanners (IOSs) for long-span fixed prosthesis and the effect of the starting quadrant on accuracy is unclear. Purpose. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the accuracy of 6 IOSs for complete-arch and prepared teeth digitally isolated from the complete-arch and to determine the effect of the starting quadrant on accuracy. Material and methods. A maxillary model containing bilaterally prepared canines, first molar teeth, and edentulous spans between the prepared teeth was used. The model was scanned by using a highly accurate industrial scanner to create a digital reference data set. Six IOSs were evaluated: TRIOS, iTero, Planmeca Emerald, Cerec Omnicam, Primescan, and Virtuo Vivo. The model was scanned 10 times with each IOS by 1 operator according to the protocols described by the manufacturers. Five scans were made starting from the right quadrant (ScanR), followed by 5 scans starting from the left quadrant (ScanL). All data sets were obtained in standard tessellation language (STL) file format and were used to evaluate accuracy (trueness and precision) with a 3D analyzing software program (Geomagic Studio 12; 3D Systems) by using a best-fit alignment. The prepared teeth were digitally isolated from the complete-arch and evaluated with the analyzing software program. The Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U statistical tests were used to detect differences for trueness and precision (alpha=.05). Results. Statistically significant differences were found regarding IOSs (P<.003) and scanning sequence (P<.05). The TRIOS showed the best trueness for the complete-arch, but not statistically different from Primescan, Virtuo Vivo, and iTero (P>.003). The lowest median values for precision of the complete-arch were also found using TRIOS, but no significant difference was found among the scanners (P>.003). In terms of trueness and precision, Primescan had the best accuracy for preparations. Emerald showed significant differences depending on the scanning sequence for complete-arch accuracy. ScanR for trueness (P=.021) and ScanL for precision (P=.004) showed improved results. However, Emerald, TRIOS, and Virtuo Vivo showed statistically significant differences in precision of preparations depending on scanning sequence. ScanL deviated less than ScanR when scanned with TRIOS (P=.025) and Emerald (P=.004), and the opposite with Virtuo Vivo (P=.008). In terms of preparations trueness, no significant difference was found between the ScanR and ScanL of any IOS (P>.05). Conclusions. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine effect of a 20-minute different intensity SV-WBV application to the ankle plantar flexor and dorsiflexor muscles properties and hamstring flexibility. Design: Prospective preintervention-postintervention design. Setting: Physiotherapy department. Participants: A total of 50 recreationally active college-aged individuals with no history of a lower leg injury volunteered. Interventions: The SV-WBV was applied throughout the session with an amplitude of 2 to 4 mm and a frequency of 25 Hz in moderate-intensity vibration group and 40 Hz in a vigorous-intensity vibration group. Main Outcome Measures: The gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscle tone was assessed with MyotonPRO, and the strength evaluation was made on the same lower leg muscles using hand-held dynamometer. The sit and reach test was used for the lower leg flexibility evaluation. Results: The gastrocnemius muscle tone decreased on the right side (d=0.643, P=.01) and increased on the left (d = 0.593, P=.04) when vigorous-intensity vibration was applied. Bilateral gastrocnemius muscle strength did not change in both groups (P > .05). Without differences between groups, bilateral tibialis anterior muscle strength increased in both groups (P < .01). Bilateral gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscle tone did not change in the moderate-intensity vibration group (P > .05). Flexibility increased in both groups (P < .01); however, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups (d = 0.169, P = .55). Conclusions: According to study results, if SV-WBV is to be used in hamstring flexibility or ankle dorsiflexor muscle strengthening, both vibration exposures should be preferred. Different vibration programs could be proposed to increase ankle plantar flexor muscle strength in the acute results. The metacognitions questionnaire (MCQ) measures individual differences in a selection of metacognitive beliefs, judgments, and monitoring tendencies considered important in the metacognitive model of psychological disorders. Method: The study included 850 university students from 15 Turkish universities. Mean age age of the participants was 21.22 years, 282 (33.17%) were female, and 558 (66.82%) were male. Results: Construct validity was evaluated by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (CIA). Exploratory factor analysis revealed that the Turkish version of MCQ-30 has 5 components, which is some factor structure as the original form. In addition, the fit indices of CIA suggested an acceptable fit to a 5-factor model consistent with the original MCQ-30. The Turkish MCQ-30 showed acceptable to good test-retest reliability, internal consistency, and convergent validity. Significant positive relationships between the subscales of MCQ-30 and measures of anxiety and obsessive-compulsive symptoms provided further support for the convergent validity of the Turkish version. Moreover significant negative correlations were observed between age and the MCQ-30 subscales, and the effect of gender was significant on some of the subscales. Method and materials: A total of 49 patients with celiac disease aged 6 to 13 years, separated into two groups as previously and newly diagnosed, and a control group of 32 healthy individuals were evaluated. In previously and newly diagnosed patients with celiac disease, body mass index Z-scores were calculated, calcium, alkaline phosphatase, vitamin D3, and parathormone levels were measured, and bone mineral density Z-scores were obtained from dual energy x-ray absorpti-ometry. In all patients, the fractal dimensions of the right and left temporomandibular condyles were evaluated with the fractal analysis method on panoramic radiographs. Results: The mean values of serum biomarker levels and the body mass index and bone mineral density Z-scores for both celiac groups were within the normal reference range. No statistically significant difference was determined between right and left condyle fractal dimen-sions values in the three groups examined. In terms of both right and left condyle fractal dimensions values, there was a statis-tically significant difference between groups. The highest fractal dimensions values were determined in the previously diagnosed group. Conclusions: Differences in fractal dimensions values were observed among patients with celiac disease following the glu-ten-free diet. Utilizing fractal analysis on panoramic radiographs can prove valuable for dental practitioners in evaluating bone min-eral density due to its cost-effect iveness, easy accessibility, and reduced radiation exposure for patients, enabling them to provide comprehensive oral health care and potential early interventions for patients with celiac disease. The integration of omics technologies into laboratory medicine has transformed healthcare, enabling personalized treatments and interventions based on individuals' distinct genetic and metabolic profiles. Interpreting laboratory data relies on reliable reference values. Presently, population-derived references are used for individuals, risking misinterpretation due to population heterogeneity, and leading to medical errors. Thus, personalized references are crucial for precise interpretation of individual laboratory results, and the interpretation of omics data should be based on individualized reference values. We reviewed recent advancements in personalized laboratory medicine, focusing on personalized omics, and discussed strategies for implementing personalized statistical approaches in omics technologies to improve global health and concluded that personalized statistical algorithms for interpretation of omics data have great potential to enhance global health. Most of them involved small study groups and compared measurements between different populations of young and old subjects either on cadavers or living subjects. OBJECTIVE To clarify volumetric and dimensional changes in midfacial superficial fat compartment retrospectively in patients who underwent a repeat magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) without gross pathology. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 70 patients with a mean age of 60 years (range: 33-82 years) and a median elapsed time of 44.5 months (range: 32-64 months) between 2 MRIs were included. Magnetic resonance imaging scans were analyzed in the axial and sagittal planes to obtain measurements of the medial part of the superficial cheek fat. Superficial cheek fat was divided into 3 compartments. Thickness, width, and height were measured, and volumes were calculated for each compartment on both hemifaces. RESULTS Volume and thickness were decreased significantly in all compartments (p < .05). The width was decreased in superior and middle compartments, whereas increased in lower compartment indicating dislocation of the fat tissue (p < .05). Height was also significantly increased (p < .05). A subgroup analysis has shown that there was no significant difference between men and women. CONCLUSION This study clarifies that aging is associated with a significant decrease in superficial midfacial fat tissue volume and thickness both in women and men. The decrease in width in upper and middle compartments, but increase in lower compartment suggests a volume shift within superficial fat tissue.Article Citation Count: 1Air Injection and Transillumination in Phonosurgery: A Novel Technique(Mosby-elsevier, 2020) Kocak, Ismail; Alkan, Zeynep; Ovunc, OkanObjectives/Hypothesis. The goal of this study was to introduce two novel techniques in phonomicrosurgery, air injection (AIR), and transillumination (TI), to improve the diagnosis and surgical excision of pathological tissue in vocal folds during suspension laryngoscopy while preserving the healthy tissue as much as possible. Study design. Prospective clinical case series. Methods. Thirty-four patients with benign vocal cord lesions who underwent phonomicrosurgery between January 2016 and May 2017 were evaluated. Pre- and intraoperative recordings were evaluated by three experienced laryngologists. Stroboscopic video images taken during the preoperative diagnosis and interoperative video recordings made before and after AIR and TI were performed were reviewed and compared. During the preoperative evaluation, the surgeons declared their surgical plans and noted changes while observing the intraoperative evaluation during AIR and TI. Results. Sixty-eight vocal folds were evaluated. The initial diagnosis was found to be consistent with the final diagnosis in only 10 patients (29.4%). The diagnoses of 29 vocal folds (42.6%) and the surgical plans changed after AIR and TI. In six cases, submucosal bands, additional morphological structures in the vicinity of the primary pathology, were observed; these could only be visualized with AIR and TI. AIR and TI revealed new pathologies in four vocal folds that were noted to be normal in the preoperative evaluation. Conclusion. Data on right ventricular (RV) involvement in BD is rather scarce. This study aims to determine whether RV systolic performance is affected in BD patients, and to understand the clinical and echocardiographic correlates of RV contractility in these patients. Forty-five patients who fulfilled criteria for BD and 45 age and gender matched controls were enrolled. All participants underwent a comprehensive echocardiographic examination, including deformation imaging, to characterize RV mechanics. Conventional morphologic and echocardiographic indicators of RV morphology and function were not different between groups, but RV apical strain and RV free wall strain (FWS) were significantly lower in BD patients as compared to the controls (P < 0.001 and P = 0.02, respectively). The only significant correlates of FWS were tricuspid regurgitation velocity and related indices in healthy controls, while FWS correlated with LV global longitudinal strain (GLS), morphologic measures of left and right atria and ventricles, and with conventional measures of right ventricular contractility. The relationship between FWS and GLS remained statistically significant after adjusting for other clinical and echocardiographic parameters (beta = 0.379, P = 0.01). In patients with BD, there is a subclinical alteration in RV contractility and the degree of alteration in the RV systolic performance paralleled that of LV. Behavioral genetic and molecular genetic studies have provided significant evidence in terms of highlighting the etiology of ADHD. Folate deficiency during pregnancy is an established risk factor for ADHD. Polymorphisms in the Methyltetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) encoding gene, such as A1298C and C667T, are associated with the decreased bioavailability of folate, and this condition can act like folate deficiency. In the literature, no study has investigated MTHFR polymorphisms in mothers of children with ADHD. Sixty-four children diagnosed with ADHD and their mothers as well as 40 healthy children and their mothers participated in this study. MTHFR polymorphisms were investigated in all participants. Comparison of the C677C and A1298C MTHFR polymorphisms in children with and without ADHD revealed no significant differences. We found that the maternal C677C_CT genotype counts, both observed and expected values, were significantly different from those based on Hardy-Weinberg Principle Analysis in the ADHD group. The most important result of this study was that maternal C677C MTHFR gene polymorphisms are significant risk factors in for ADHD, and we argue that children with ADHD are exposed to folate deficiency, even if their mothers received a sufficient amount of folate during pregnancy. This result also highlights one of the genetic factors of ADHD. This study explores the neuroprotective effects of dapagliflozin in a rat model of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) induced by propionic acid (PPA), characterized by social interaction deficits, communication challenges, repetitive behaviors, cognitive impairments, and oxidative stress. Our research aims to find effective treatments for ASD, a condition with limited therapeutic options and significant impacts on individuals and families. PPA induces ASD-like symptoms in rodents, mimicking biochemical and behavioral features of human ASD. This study explores dapagliflozin's potential to mitigate these symptoms, providing insights into novel therapeutic avenues. The findings demonstrate that dapagliflozin enhances the activation of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) antioxidant pathway and increases levels of neurotrophic and growth factors such as brainderived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and insulin-like growth factorbinding protein-3 (IGFBP-3). Additionally, dapagliflozin reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-17 (IL-17), and decreases the oxidative stress marker malondialdehyde (MDA). Dapagliflozin's antioxidant properties support cognitive functions by modulating apoptotic mechanisms and enhancing antioxidant capacity. These combined effects contribute to reducing learning and memory impairments in PPA-induced ASD, highlighting dapagliflozin's potential as an adjunctive therapy for oxidative stress and inflammation-related cognitive decline in ASD. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential effects of DBS on temperature, proprioceptive, tactile, exteroceptive, pain and cortical sensations, and odor identification in PD patients. Methods The study included 14 patients (with a mean age of 59.78 +/- 11.03 years; range, 44-70 years) with idiopathic PD who underwent DBS surgery for movement disorders caused by PD at the same Neurosurgery Department. All patients were tested while DBS was turned on (DBS-ON) and off (DBS-OFF). To clearly observe the effect of removing stimulation off, DBS devices were turned off by experimental clinical personnel for a minimum duration of 30 min prior to examination. Temperature, proprioceptive, tactile, exteroceptive, pain and cortical sensations, and odor identification were examined. Results We found that two-point discrimination was significantly lower during DBS-ON than DBS-OFF (p = 0.031). Tactile sensation and kinesthesia deviation degree were lower during DBS-ON than DBS-OFF, but were non-significant (p > 0.05). The number of correct answers on an assessment of graphesthesia was higher during DBS-ON, but was non-significant as well (p > 0.05). Odor identification was better during DBS-OFF. Conclusions DBS may have an effective role to improve somatosensation and DBS-related benefits may not be explained by improvements in motor function alone, but rather by enhanced somatosensory processing. In this study, the antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antiplatelet potentials of the extracts obtained from Ribes rubrum were investigated. The antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities of the ethanol and water extracts of R. rubrum were evaluated by in vitro methods. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents were also determined. The experimental diabetes model in rats was induced with streptozotocin (STZ). After hyperglycemia occurred, the ethanol extracts of R. rubrum (RRE, at 100 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg doses) were administered to the treatment groups for 14 days. Blood glucose, lipid profile, plasma, and pancreas tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) levels were determined and compared at the end of the experiments. P-selectin levels and mitochondrial membrane polarization (MMP) of platelets were also measured. In vitro study, the RRE showed potent anti-inflammatory activity. Administration of RRE (at 100 mg/kg doses) to diabetic rats lowered blood glucose level insignificantly. The results showed that there was an increment in levels of TNF-alpha in plasma and pancreas tissue of the diabetic group compared to the control group. R. rubrum extract regulated and normalized their levels in plasma and pancreatic tissue. RRE at both doses significantly decreased platelet P-selectin levels and prevented STZ-induced loss of MMP in platelets. The results of current research indicate that RRE extract has potent anti-platelet and anti-inflammatory effects and may be beneficial in preventing diabetic complications. Practical applications Hyperglycemia causes dyslipidemia, advanced oxidative stress, platelet activation, and inflammation in diabetes mellitus. Plants with various medicinal properties are of worldwide interest for the treatment of diseases due to their biological activities. In this study, the antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects of extracts of Ribes rubrum (%100 ethanol, 50% ethanol, water) were evaluated by in vitro and in vivo methods. The diabetes model was induced with streptozotocin (STZ). The rats were divided into control, diabetic control, R. rubrum-100 mg/kg, and R. rubrum-500 mg/kg doses groups. Blood glucose levels, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), platelet P-selectin levels, mitochondrial membrane polarization of platelets were examined. The present study has shown that R. rubrum has anti-inflammatory and antiplatelet activity. R. rubrum may be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of DM complications due to its anti-inflammatory and antithrombotic effects.Article Citation Count: 1Any Instrument in a Surgeon's Hand can be Fatal: Unusual Iliac Artery Injury in Lumbar Spinal Deformity Surgery(Elsevier Science inc, 2020) Koban, Orkun; Akar, Ezgi; Ogrenci, Ahmet; Yilmaz, Mesut; Dalbayrak, SedatBACKGROUND: Vascular complications, which we rarely encounter during lumbosacral stabilization surgeries, can be life-threatening if they are not treated quickly. These arterial injuries occur during screw insertion. Our presentation with the common iliac artery injury during the decortication process in transverse processes with the "pedicle awl" will be the first case in the literature to our knowledge. CASE DESCRIPTION: Lumbosacral decompression and stabilization surgery was performed in a 57-year-old patient with L1-S1 spinal stenosis and scoliosis. After the stabilization process was completed, while decorticating the transverse processes with the pedicle awl, the tool fell to the paravertebral region, and then active arterial hemorrhage was observed at the surgical site. Hemostasis was achieved in the surgical field, but a rapid progressive drop was observed in the patient's blood pressure. The surgery was quickly terminated, and the patient was turned to the supine position. Vascular surgeons opened the abdomen with a midline laparotomy, and approximately 2600 mL hematoma was evacuated from the retroperitoneum. The 5-mm defect in the left common iliac artery was repaired by primary suturing. The patient had no problem in postoperative follow-up and was discharged on the 10th postoperative day. CONCLUSIONS: In these complications that we rarely encounter in lumbosacral stabilization surgeries, perioperative findings should be well evaluated, and rapid intervention should be made in cases in which vascular injury is considered. One must remember that every tool used during surgery can be dangerous even in an experienced hand.
