Article Cultural adaptation and Turkish version of Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with Physical Disabilities in individuals with spinal cord injury: a reliability and validity study(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2022) Koce, Kubra; Atici, Emine; Cirak, Yasemin Buran; Elbasi, Nurgul Durustkan; Tutuneken, Yunus EmrePurpose To translate the "Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with Physical Disabilities (PASIPD)" into Turkish, to make a cultural adaptation, and to examine the psychometric properties including validity and reliability. Methods During the translation period cross-cultural adaptation design proposed by guideline was used. Patients completed the Turkish version of the PASIPD and it was applied again a week later. To determine the reliability and internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated. Test-retest reliability was determined by using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Pearson's correlation analysis. Construct validity was examined with factor analysis. Convergent validity was examined by comparing PASIPD with Functional Independent Measurement (FIM), Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), and Craig Handicap Assessment and Reporting Technique Short (CHART-SF), and criterion validity was examined by comparing PASIPD with Manual wheelchair propulsion tests scores. Results Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.725. The ICC coefficient for the test-retest reliability was 0.851. PASIPD was explained by three factors. The ratio of explaining the total variance of these 3 factors was determined as 51.66%. FIM (r = 0.307, p = 0.040) and CHART-SF were moderately positively correlated with PASIPD total score. The correlation between the total score of PASIPD and NHP was r = -0.443 (p = 0.002). 20 Meters Propulsion (r = -0.404, p = 0.005) and Slalom Tests (r = -0.305, p = 0.037) were highly negative and 6 min Push Propulsion (r = 0.456, p = 0.001) were moderately positive with PASIPD total score. Conclusion The Turkish version of the PASIPD is a valid and reliable scale in patients with spinal cord injury.Article The effects of social isolation due to COVID-19 on the fear of movement, falling, and physical activity in older people(Wiley, 2022) Atici, Emine; Girgin, Nuray; cevik Saldiran, TulayObjective This study investigates the interaction between fear of movement, fall risk, and physical activity levels in ageing individuals who experienced social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods In this descriptive and cross-sectional study, 254 eligible participants used an online background survey. Individuals' fear of movement was evaluated by the kinesiophobia causes scale, fall risk by the falls efficacy scale, and physical activity levels by the physical activity scale for the ageing. Results The fear of movement had a significant positive interaction on fall risk (beta = 0.471, R-2 = 0.495, p < 0.001). The fall risk had a negative effect on physical activity (beta = -1.686, R-2 = 0.161, p < 0.001). The fear of movement and fall risk explained 15.6% of the change in physical activity levels of ageing individuals (p < 0.001). Conclusions These results showed a significant interaction between physical activity levels and fear of movement, with a high fall risk in ageing individuals during the pandemic period.Article Effects of Transcutaneous Occipital Nerve Stimulation and Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization in Chronic Migraine(Mosby-elsevier, 2022) Torlak, Mustafa Savas; Atici, Emine; Cibik, MustafaObjective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of transcutaneous occipital nerve stimulation (TONS) and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) on pain, sleep, and quality of life in patients with chronic migraine. Methods: Forty-five female patients with chronic migraine were randomly assigned to control (n = 15), IASTM (n = 15), and TONS (n = 15) groups. Neck exercises were given to all groups once per day for 5 weeks. IASTM, using a smooth metal scraping massage tool, was applied to the patients in the IASTM group twice per week for 5 weeks. Patients in the TONS group were treated with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation 3 times per week for 5 weeks. The outcome measures were a Numeric Pain Scale, the Headache Impact Test-6, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Short Form-36. Results: The IASTM and TONS groups had significantly lower mean Headache Impact Test-6 scores than the control group in the last measurement (F = 3.908, P = .028). The IASTM and TONS groups had lower mean Numeric Pain Scale scores than the control group (F = 13.861, P = .001). The IASTM group had a lower mean Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score in the last measurements than the other 2 groups (F = 6.792, P = .003). There was no difference between the groups in the general health perception scores obtained in the last measurements (F = 1.585, P = .217). In the last measurement, the IASTM and TONS groups had higher mean general health scores than the control group. Conclusion: IASTM and TONS applications reduced head and neck pain and improved sleep and quality of life in patients with chronic migraine. Neither had superiority over the other. Methods: Thirty patients with non-specific chronic neck pain were recruited. After the initial examination, one session of manual therapy was conducted. The examinations were repeated to assess the effect of manual therapy on pain intensity and neck range of motion. After manual therapy, patients were randomly allocated into two groups: stabilization exercise group (SEG) and therapeutic exercise group (2 days/week/6 week). Pain intensity was assessed using the visual analog scale. Joint movements assessed using goniometer and the lateral scapular shift test for scapular dyskinesia. In addition, disability status was assessed using a neck disability index. Results: In all patients, manual therapy decreased pain intensity and increased joint movements (p < 0.05). After 6 weeks of exercise therapy, pain intensity, neck flexion, extension, lateral flexion movement and disability improved in SEG (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that stabilization exercises combined with manual therapy had more positive effects among patients with non-specific chronic neck pain. Implications for practice:
