Book Part Citation Count: 0The Place of Coal Production and Consumption in Turkey's Economy(Elsevier Inc., 2018) Sari,E.K.; Ulusoy,I.With today's developing technology, the energy requirement for countries has become increasingly important. For this reason, the domestic energy use rates of countries are emerging as a factor that increases the economic independence and strategic power by contributing positively to the development of the industrial sector. Fossil energy sources cause air pollution as well as both increased production costs and occupational accidents because of increasing access difficulties to the remaining reserves. Nevertheless, fossil energy sources are still of great importance in terms of domestic energy use. It is seen that the most abundant fossil energy source in Turkey is coal. In this study, the location of the coal in Turkey's energy production and consumption is examined. The profit-loss analysis was conducted by examining the relationship between coal production costs in the country and the benefits derived from domestic consumption. © 2018 Elsevier Inc. Because there are numerous fossil fuel reserves in the north of the Black Sea, the trend of renewable energies in this region is less than in other countries. The use of fossil fuels in this region causes an increase in both regional and global aspects of environmental pollution. The formation of the H2S in Black Sea, which is a closed sea, affects the natural life of its inhabitants and environmental flora in this region. If the H2S can be separated to produce pure hydrogen using various methods, H2S pollution in this sea will be overcome and pure hydrogen will be used in the fuel cells for alternative energy production. The amount of H2S ensures an adequate potential of energy production in multiple countries around the Black Sea. Moreover, a large amount of the world's boron reserves are in Turkey. Boron is an ideal material for hydrogen storage. Black Sea coastal countries, especially Turkey, must incline using efficient and renewable energy. Country strategies shall be issued aiming this tendency. For the realization of a more conscious use of energy in the future, education should emphasize on energy efficiency and environmental protection. Especially to create the necessary awareness by preschool and primary school students, the topic should be included in the curricula as well as in the social responsibility projects. Accordingly, this paper aims to provide an alternative approach to the energy usage of the Black Sea coastal countries, especially Turkey. In addition, awareness of energy efficiency and environmental protection in education system are described. © SGEM2012 All Rights Reserved by the International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference SGEM Published by STEF92 Technology Ltd.Conference Object Citation Count: 0The strategies of municipalities about usage of renewable energy resources in Turkey(International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference, 2014) Ulusoy,I.; Saka,L.; Bostancı,S.H.Air pollution and climate change arising from the use of fossil energy resources has historically been reducing the quality of human life drastically. Nevertheless the decline in reserves of these resources has led to an increased interest into new and renewable energy systems. Renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and biomass have started playing a major role in meeting energy needs increasingly in developing countries. Municipalities can be perceived as solution areas for different urban, environmental, and social problems. Analysing the overall structure the environment-related projects led by municipalities is now taking place as a result of collaborated studies across multiple departments. Development of renewable energy sources and other work done on the environment are produced with the cooperation of the City Council, Municipal Volunteers, Construction Department and the Directorate of Environment. Therefore, various strategic actors take place in the studies about renewable energy resources. In this study, approaches on renewable energy in Turkey are determined by analysing some of the examples from these projects. © SGEM2014.
