Conference Object Citation Count: 03-D NUMERICAL MODELLING OF GROUND VIBRATION WAVES INDUCED BY BLASTING AT A QUARY(int Scientific Conference Sgem, 2010) Aksoy, Mehmet; Kahriman, Ali; Makine / MachineryGround vibrations arising from excavation with blasting is one of the environmental problems in mining industry. The prediction of ground vibrations and the realization of controlled blasting based on this prediction have a great importance in order to minimize the environmental effects of blasting. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ground vibrations induced by blasting at Akyol Quarry which selected as a test site after the determination of the geomechanical properties of the rock mass with a computer software (AUTODYN 3D) that is able to model three dimensionally. During the field study, samples were taken from the different regions of the quarry. On these samples, geomechanical properties of the intact rock samples were determined. Then, geomechanical properties of the rock mass were estimated. In the numerical modeling stage, four main numerical models were prepared in the AUTODYN software by using the data obtained from the field and laboratory studies. The data obtained from these model runs was compared to the data obtained in the field measurements. As a result of this comparison, the model that would be used for future studies was selected.Article Citation Count: 4Abstract Elliptic Equations with Integral Boundary Conditons(Shanghai Scientific Technology Literature Publishing House, 2016) Shakhmurov, VeliThis paper focuses on nonlocal integral boundary value problems for elliptic differential-operator equations. Here given conditions guarantee that maximal regularity and Fredholmness in L-p spaces. These results are applied to the Cauchy problem for abstract parabolic equations, its infinite systems and boundary value problems for anisotropic partial differential equations in mixed L-p norm.Article Citation Count: 2Accuracy of the Anatomic Placement in Ultrasonography Guided Facet Joint Blockage with Supervising of C-Arm Fluoroscopy(Briefland, 2019) Erdogan, Sinan; Okur, Sibel Caglar; Atici, Aysegul; Gokcen, Huseyin Bahadir; Polat, Baris; Atici, YunusBackground: Facet joint blockage is a type of regional anesthesia which is performed selectively on the medial branch of the ramus dorsalis of the spinal nerve and is a current approach for the treatment of pain originating from facet arthropathy. This current approach to chronic low back pain caused by facet joint pathology is usually performed with ultrasound guidance. Objectives: The accuracy of anatomical placement of the facet joint with ultrasonography guidance is determined by C-arm fluoroscopy image taken as reference. Patients and Methods: A total of 22 patients who were diagnosed with facet joint syndrome were involved in the study. After detecting the superolateral corner of the facet joint, which is the target point with ultrasound, the control was provided with C-arm fluoroscopy by giving radiopaque fluid. In order to verify the localization, a mixture of 40 mg triamcinolone and 1 cc 2% lidocaine was injected. Results: Nerve blockage was applied to 67 facet joints at L3 - L4, L4 - L5 and L5 - Si level in a total of 22 patients (15 female and seven male) diagnosed with facet joint syndrome. The patients' mean age was 63 (range, 48 - 80), the mean body mass index was 28.4 (range,18.9 -38.1) and the mean time to determine facet localization with ultrasonography (USG) was 240 seconds (range,140 -320). Patients' mean visual analog scale (VAS) decreased from 7 (range, 6 - 9) to 2.5 (range, 1- 6). In the C-arm fluoroscopy control after the injection of radio-opaque material, the needle was found to be located in the lamina in four segments and it was relocated. In addition to this, two facet joints were not localized in ultrasound. This study concluded that the location of the facet joint with USG guidance is possible with 91% sensitivity and 100% positive predictive value when C-arm fluoroscopy was regarded as a gold standard in determining facet joint localization. No complications were observed. Conclusion: The results showed that ultrasonography guided facet joint block can be considered as a minimally invasive procedure that could be easily applied without radiation exposure.Article Citation Count: 0Adjuvant Brachytherapy for Early Stage Endometrial Cancer: Clinical Outcomes and Dosimetric Comparisons of Ovoid and Cylinder Applicators(Springer india, 2024) Barlas, Ceren; Ergen, Sefika Arzu; Karacam, Songul cavdar; Sahinler, IsmetAimTo compare the doses of ovoid and cylinder applicators on the vaginal surface and organs at risk in adjuvant vaginal cuff brachytherapy and to evaluate the effect on clinical outcomes.Materials-MethodsTwenty-one patients were divided into 2 groups according to the applicator type. Three mm-spaced 7 stopping positions were activated in both applicators. The dose was defined as 21 Gy in 3 fractions. To compare the vaginal surface dose differences, point doses were determined in the transverse, sagittal and longitudinal planes with 5 mm intervals. Student-t and Mann-Whitney-U tests were used to compare D0,1cc, D1cc, D2cc, D5cc, D10cc and mean doses of organs at risk and vaginal surface point doses between groups.ResultsPoint doses in the transverse and longitudinal planes were higher in group 1; whereas, they were higher in group 2 in the sagittal plane. The ovoid separation caused a decrease in the sagittal and longitudinal plane doses. While rectum D5cc, D10cc and mean doses were significantly higher in ovoid applicator, bladder D1cc, D2cc, D5cc, D10cc and mean doses and sigmoid D0,1cc and D1cc doses were found to be higher in cylinder applicator.ConclusionThe ovoid applicator had a better dose distribution in the transverse and longitudinal planes than the cylinder applicator; however, low dose in the sagittal plane might be related to the ovoid separation. Bladder and sigmoid doses were higher with cylinder applicator and rectal doses were higher with ovoid applicator. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of local control and side effects.Article Citation Count: 3Adverse Effect of Emotional Eating Developed During the COVID-19 Pandemic on Healthy Nutrition, a Vicious Circle: A cross-sectional descriptive study(Asoc Espanola Dietistas Nutricionistas, 2021) Ozcan, Burcu Ates; Yeslikaya, BurcuIntroduction: Because of the new type of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) seen worldwide, many countries have a difficult time both in terms of health and economy. It is thought that infection and fear of death owing to the disease may cause a disturbance in the individuals' psychology. Moreover, precautions such as social distancing and quarantine to prevent the spread of the disease and the prolongation of these interventions may further aggravate the conditions, such as mood disorders and stress. This study was aimed to determine the emotional eating status of individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic and to determine its effect on a healthy eating attitude. Material and methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study with a total number of 578 adults without COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment (422 [73%] women, 156 [27%] men). The study was conducted using the Google Forms web survey platform. The link to the survey was shared via WhatsApp and Instagram. The participants were asked to share the study link to reach out to as many potential participants as possible throughout the nation using the method known as snowball sampling. A questionnaire form which includes sociodemographic characteristics, the Turkish version of the Emotional Eater Questionnaire (EEQ-TR), and the Attitude Scale for Healthy Nutrition (ASHN) were applied to the participants. EEQ-TR and ASHN forms were answered twice, retrospectively for the pre-COVID period and prospectively during the COVID period. Results: While average emotional eating scores increased compared to pre-COVID-19 scores, individuals shifted from low-level emotional eaters to emotional eaters (p < 0.000). On the other hand, the average ASHN scores decreased, and individuals shifted from the middle-level healthy eating attitude to a low level (p < 0.000). As the quarantine period increased, emotional eating, body weight, and body mass index (BMI) increased, and healthy eating attitude decreased (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Individuals' emotional eating increased due to social distancing, self-quarantine, or isolation in the COVID-19 pandemic. These changes are found to be effective in healthy eating in a negative way. Long-term unhealthy eating is not recommended for people's health. Therefore, it is necessary to inform individuals about stress management, healthy nutrition, the importance of regular exercise, and sleep patterns.Article Citation Count: 0ALGINATE-BASED CELL ENCAPSULATION USING DIFFERENT CROSSLINKER ELEMENTS(World Scientific Publ Co Pte Ltd, 2024) Acar, Ozge Karabiyik; Tuncer, A. Alperen; Sahin, Fikrettin; Kose, Gamze Torun; Aysan, Erhan; Genetik ve Biyomühendislik / Genetic and Bio-EngineeringAlginate microcapsules are the most frequently used materials for cell transplantation. Different crosslinkers affect crosslinking affinity, which has a significant influence on microcapsule properties. The objective was to prepare in vitro microcapsules using calcium, barium, iron, manganese, nickel, and strontium as divalent cations to observe their potential for use in cell transplantation. Sodium alginate was added dropwise to the individually prepared crosslinkers to observe diffusion-based gelling. Alginate microcapsules were investigated regarding capsule stability, physiological properties, and cell viability. After 30 days of incubation, cell viability was greater than 90% for the cell-encapsulated microcapsules when crosslinked with CaCl2 and NiCl2. Viability decreased in the following order: CaCl2 > NiCl2 > BaCl2 > SrCl2 > MnCl2 > FeCl2. A compression test was performed to investigate the required force to deform 30% of microcapsules, and only MnCl2, FeCl2 (180mM), and NiCl2 (50mM) demonstrated higher resistance to the applied force than CaCl2. Except for the FeCl2 group, all cell-encapsulated microcapsules remained intact for 45 days. Potential sensitivities to CaCl2 during cell transplantation may compel alternative crosslinker usage, and our study revealed that NiCl2 and BaCl2 can be used as alternative crosslinkers to CaCl2 due to their high cell viability and consistent stability.Conference Object Citation Count: 0Analysis of Under-Constrained and Unstable Structures by The Method TPO/MA(Amer inst Physics, 2018) Toklu, Yusuf Cengiz; Bekdas, Gebrail; Nigdeli, Sinan MelihUnder-constrained and unstable structures are those which are kinematically unstable. They may show large displacements even under very small forces contrarily to well-constrained stable structures. Under-constrained structures manifest themselves with insufficient boundary conditions. On the other hand, structures with missing members may become kinematically unstable under certain loadings. A common property of these structures is that the rank of their stiffness matrix, used in their analysis by classical methods, comes out to be zero, thus making impossible their analysis by these methods. Fortunately, application of the method Total Potential Optimization using Metaheuristic Algorithms (TPO/MA) makes the analysis of these structures very simple, with no extra difficulty as compared to the analysis of well-constrained stable structures. Examples shown in this study are demonstrating this fact.Article Citation Count: 0Analytical Modeling of Counter-Current Drying Process(int Center Applied thermodynamics, 2024) Pamuk, M. T.In this analytical study, spray drying of detergent particles of diameters 0.4-1 mm by using counter -current air heated at around 300 C-degrees is investigated using Matlab (c) . Particle drying using hot gases is a mature process with a vast variety of applications ranging from dried food to powdered detergent production. The study shows a strong relationship between the drying process (final water content) and particle size, drying gas temperature, as well as the tower dimensions since cross-sectional area of the tower has a direct control on vertical gas velocity, thus heat and mass transfer coefficients while the height of tower is closely related to residence time of particles in tower which guarantees the targeted drying level. The conclusions of this study can be a guide to have a better set of drying parameters such as inlet temperatures and humidity/water content as well as exit temperatures and humidity/water content and valuable information on how these relate to heat energy consumption necessary to heat the air from atmospheric conditions to the desired drying gas temperature. It is also worth indicating that the measurement of the absolute humidity in tower exhaust is a good parameter to control the drying process in an effective way.Conference Object Citation Count: 0ASSESSING PARENTS PERCEPTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS(Stef92 Technology Ltd, 2013) Ozyaral, Oguz; Ayra, Funda; Kaya, ErtugrulIt is inevitable to avoid from the influences of some adversities to arise in the ecosystem as "environmental risks" on our lives. The present study aims to determine the level of perception of parents on environmental awareness and environmental protection and to raise awareness on the environmental value and protection. In the present study, the questionnaires were administered to the parents of two private kindergarten students in Kalltoprak-Erenkoy districts on the Asian side of Istanbul as well as the parents of first and second grade students of a private primary school in Umraniye district on the Asian side of Istanbul. The parents of these first and second grade students and the kindergarten students were asked to fill in these questionnaires. A questionnaire prepared by the researchers and consisting of 76 questions was administered to the parents of the kindergarten students in order to measure their parents' environmental perception, 12 of which were prepared to measure the demographic characteristics and 64 of which were prepared for the perception measurement. In the study, the relations between the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of the parents and their environmental perceptions were tried to be found out. Moreover, to what extent the parents put into practice what they know was analyzed so that it can be shown how the information acquired affects the behavior acquisition. In line with the findings obtained, the fact that the awareness of the parents themselves on environment and ecosystem should be improved so that they can transfer the proper actions and approaches they have internalized to their children was found out. Emphasizing the environmental education in every part of the life and providing this education through non-governmental organizations and the experts and the efficiency of the media in this regard were among the results. In addition, the environmental awareness studies should begin during childhood for the sustainability of the environmental awareness education and the media studies should be heavily focused on so that the socio-cultural behavior changes could be ensured in the society and the social media studies should be made.Conference Object Citation Count: 0ASSESSMENT OF 5-6 YEARS OLD CHILDREN'S PERCEPTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS & ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION(Stef92 Technology Ltd, 2013) Ozyaral, Oguz; Karakaya, Mukadder; Kaya, ErtugrulThe aim of this study was to identify and assess the perception of environmental awareness and protection among preschool children (4-5-6 years old), and develop education programs accordingly. To that end, we carried out a survey that consisted of 46 questions by means of face to face question-answer method. To create environmental consciousness and raise awareness of environmental protection at an early age, it is very important to make a proper assessment of answers given to the questions about the role of education in the creation of environmental awareness and environmental protection, when and how such education should take place, and from where such education should be received to achieve higher efficiency. In this context, the answers to the aforementioned questions will help us develop healthy methods to create environmental consciousness, raise realistic, permanent awareness of environmental protection, and instill good habits. The subjects of the study were 37 children, who were attending research-based preschool institutions resident in the districts of Kiziltoprak-Erenkoy on the Anatolian Side of Istanbul. The children were at the same time attending regular preschool institutions. Within the scope of the study, we identified the parents' level of education as well as the children's perception levels about environment and environmental pollution (air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, soil, and recycling), information sources, lifestyles, and habits. The study revealed that, along with the parents' educational background, the education received from preschool institutions and mass media play a significant, efficient role in the creation of environmental consciousness and awareness of environmental protection among children, and that we need to develop more efficient means of education.Article Citation Count: 1Assessment of IL-7RA T244I Polymorphism as a Risk Factor of Multiple Sclerosis in Turkish Population(Turkish Neuropsychiatry Assoc-turk Noropsikiyatri dernegi, 2020) Unsal, Mirac Aysen; Manukyan, Nuket Yildiz; Isik, Nihal; Direskeneli, Guher SaruhanIntroduction: The T244I variant of the IL-7RA gene, rs6897932, is one of the first polymorphisms found to be associated with the development of multiple sclerosis (MS). Although several studies provided evidence for the association of MS and this variant, other studies could not confirm this result. These inconsistent results suggest that the role of this polymorphism in the development of disease is associated with ethnicity. Methods: We investigated rs6897932 polymorphisms in a large cohort of patients with MS and healthy controls in a turkish population. Results: In our study, there were no significant differences in genotype frequencies in the IL-7RA rs6897932 polymorphism and no significant difference between C and T alleles in patients with MS and controls. Conclusion: This study is the first to evaluate the risk of the rs6897932 polymorphism in turkish patients with MS.Article Citation Count: 1Awareness of child abuse and neglect among students(Kare Publ, 2022) Uysal, Gulzade; Bozkurt, Gulcin; Duzkaya, Duygu SonmezObjectives: This descriptive study was conducted to determine the level of awareness of child abuse and neglect (CAN) among students at a private university in Istanbul, Turkey. Methods: The study sample comprised 1533 students from all faculties and colleges of the university selected using the stratified sampling method. A demographic information form and the Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness Scale (CANAS) were used to collect the study data. The mean total score of the CANAS and the mean scores of the physical abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect subscales were statistically significantly higher among female students (p<0.05). The physical abuse and neglect subscale scores of students who had formal education on abuse were higher than those of students who had not (p<0.05). Conclusion:The female students and those who had received instruction about abuse had greater awareness of abuse and neglect. Broader coverage in the curriculum may increase the awareness of all students and help to enhance public understanding.Article Citation Count: 0Can Rectal Indomethacin Be an Alternative Local Anesthetic Method to Intrauterine Lidocaine During Endometrial Biopsy? A Clinical Observational Prospective Study(Turkiye Klinikleri, 2020) Demircan Karadag, Sinem; Karadag, Cihan; Senturk, Mehmet Baki; Turgut, AbdulkadirObjective: Endometrial biopsy is a pain-related gynecological procedure. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of rectal indomethacin and intrauterine lidocaine on pain control during endometrial sampling. Material and Methods: This clinical observational prospective trial was conducted in 120 patients with the complaint of abnormal uterine bleeding who presented at Istanbul Medeniyet University Goztepe Training and Research Hospital, Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, between January 2017 and June 2017. Patients were divided into two groups. The rectal group had 64 patients, to whom indomethacin was given as a local anesthetic. The intrauterine group had 56 patients, for whom lidocaine was the local anesthetic used. Endometrial biopsy was performed by using a no. 4 Karman cannula. The primary goal of measurement was pain intensity assessed by a visual analog scale before, during, and 10 minutes after the procedure. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in mean age, body mass index, weight and median levels of gravidity, parity and abortion. The median pain scores of the two groups during and 10 minutes after the procedure were similar (p>0.05). Conclusion: In this study, rectal indomethacin was shown to be equal to intrauterine anesthesia for reducing pain during the endometrial biopsy. Rectal indomethacin may be an alternative drug to relieve pain during gynecological procedures. Further researches with larger numbers of patients are needed to confirm our findings.Letter Citation Count: 0Can the development of lung fibrosis be prevented after COVID-19 infection?(Termedia Publishing House Ltd, 2022) Kalemci, Serdar; Zeybek, Arife; Kargi, Ahmet Bulent[No Abstract Available]Conference Object Citation Count: 0Carleman Estimates and Unique Continuation Property for Abstract Elliptic Equations(Amer inst Physics, 2011) Shakhmurov, Veli B.The unique continuation theorems for elliptic differential-operator equations with variable coefficients in vector-valued L-p-space are investigated. Medical datasets are often not balanced in their class labels. The traditional classifiers can be seriously affected by the imbalanced class distribution in the data. This is because they aim to optimize the overall accuracy without considering the relative distribution of each class. This study searches the effect of class imbalance in training data when developing neural network classifier for medical decision making on chronic kidney disease. Neural networks are widely used in a number of applications including data mining and decision systems. Back propagation networks are a popular type of neural networks that can be trained to recognize different patterns. The importance of these networks was considered and a comparative study of some sampling algorithms was performed based on multilayer perceptron with different learning rate values for the prediction of chronic kidney disease. This study reveals that sampling algorithms can improve the performance of classification algorithms and learning rate is a crucial parameter which can significantly effect on multilayer perceptron.Article Citation Count: 1THE CLASSICAL ADIABATIC CONSTANCY OF PVγ FOR AN IDEAL GAS, CAN BE SHOWN TO BE A QUANTUM MECHANICAL OCCURRENCE, WHICH YIELDS THE PARTICULAR VALUE OF THE CONSTANT, IN QUESTION(Turkish Soc thermal Sciences Technology, 2012) Yarman, Tolga; Kholmetskii, Alexander L.; Korfali, Onder; Enerji Sistemleri Mühendisliği / Energy Systems EngineeringIn this paper we find a full connection between the long lasting macroscopic classical laws of gases and the quantum mechanical description of non-interacting particles confined in a box, thus constituting an ideal gas. In such a gas, the motion of each individual molecule can be considered to be independent of all other molecules, and the macroscopic parameters of an ideal gas, mainly, pressure P and temperature T, can be defined as simple average quantities based on individual motions of all molecules in consideration. It is shown that for an ideal gas enclosed in a macroscopic cubic box of volume V, an alphanumeric expression for the Constant appearing in the classical law of adiabatic expansion law, i.e. PV5/3 = Constant, can be derived based on quantum mechanics. Note that this constant has otherwise remained for centuries, as just an abstract quantity in the form of P1V15/3=P2V25/3 = P3V35/3 written for different thermodynamic states, delineated through an adiabatic transformation. No one even seems to have thought that it may eventually have a particular expression. Physical implications of the result we disclose are discussed.Article Citation Count: 5Clinical Features and Short-Term Outcomes of Bariatric Surgery in Morbidly Obese Patients: Institutional Experience at a Rural Hospital(Mary Ann Liebert, inc, 2021) Senol, Kazim; Ferhatoglu, Murat Ferhat; Kocaeli, Aysen Akkurt; Dundar, Halit Ziya; Kaya, EkremObjective: To prospectively evaluate the postoperative morbidity, mortality, and weight loss evolution of patients who underwent a bariatric procedure during 1 year of follow-up. Methods: Since July 2016, a total of 101 patients' data have been prospectively registered in a database. Comorbidities, operating time, hospital stay, early and late complications rate, and weight loss evolution after 1 year of follow-up were recorded. Results: The mean age was 38.41 +/- 11.05 years with a mean body mass index (BMI) of 49.02 +/- 5.89 kg/m(2) (range 38-67). Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) was performed in 93 patients (92.07%) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RNYGB) in 8 patients (7.92%). Thirty-day morbidity rate was 7.92% (8/101). Within a mean 9.32 +/- 2.25 (range 1-19) months follow-up time, mean percent of the excess of weight loss of 1st, 6th, and 12th months were 22.7 +/- 6.1, 67.2 +/- 11.2, and 81.4 +/- 10.5, respectively. Diabetes (n = 38, 37.6%), hypertension (n = 13, 12.9%), and obstructive sleep apnea (n = 5, 4.9%) were resolved in 76%, 68.4%, and 100% of the patients, respectively (p < 0.001). Conclusions: LSG and RNYGB are safe and highly effective, particularly in patients with a BMI >50 kg/m(2). Both techniques have been presented with better clinical outcomes regarding significant comorbidity resolution in the early evolution of weight loss.Article Citation Count: 2Clinical impact of depression and anxiety in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis(Turkish Assoc Tuberculosis & Thorax, 2020) Bekir, Melahat; Kocakaya, Derya; Balcan, Baran; Olgun Yildizeli, Sehnaz; Eryuksel, Emel; Ceyhan, BerrinIntroduction: Bronchiectasis is a chronic suppurative disease characterized by abnormal bronchial dilatation. The nature of bronchiectasis may have negative impact on psychological status, however it is poorly studied in relation to clinical indices, particularly the severity of disease. Primary aim of this study is to detect depression and anxiety in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis and to evaluate its relationship with disease severity indexes. Materials and Methods: Ninety (male/female= 37/53; median age 45 years) stable non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectatic adult patients were enrolled into this study. Dyspnea scores, number of exacerbations and hospital admissions within the last year, body-mass index, pulmonary function tests, sputum cultures, bronchiectasis disease severity indexes (BSI and FACED) were assessed. Anxiety and depression were evaluated by using the Turkish version of the hospital anxiety and depression scale questionaire. Results: Anxiety was diagnosed in 30% of patients and depression was diagnosed in 41% of the participants. Female participants had significantly higher rates of depression (55% vs. 22%; p= 0.002). Exacerbation rates within the last year were higher among the subjects with anxiety, moreover, patients with depression had shorter duration of disease. 851 and FACED severity indexes increased with longer duration of disease (5.6 +/- 5.0 yrs in mild group vs. 10.1 +/- 9.2 yrs in moderate-to-severe group, p= 0.035 and 5.7 +/- 5.4 yrs in mild group vs. 12.1 +/- 9.7 yrs in moderate-to-severe group, p= 0.001, respectively), however, anxiety and depression were not related with BSI and FACED severity indexes. Conclusion: Patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis have an increased risk for depression and anxiety. Duration of disease and higher exacerbation rate are related with psychological status and indexes increased with longer duration of disease. Lady detection and taking the necessary measures to improve the psychological state is necessary for the overall management of these patients.Review Citation Count: 0COMMONLY CONFUSED TERMS IN MEDICINE(Nobel Ilac, 2017) Seren, Lale Pulat; Yakinci, CengizLanguage is an instrument for handing down thoughts, scientific knowledge, poetic and literary works.
