Article The acute effects of different intensity whole-body vibration exposure on muscle tone and strength of the lower legs, and hamstring flexibility: A pilot study(Human Kinetics Publishers Inc., 2021) Saldiran,T.; Atici,E.; Rezaei,D.A.; Öztürk,Ö.; Uslu,B.; Özcan,B.A.; Okudan,B.Context: The research on the change in properties of the lower leg muscles by different intensity sinusoidal vertical whole-body vibration (SV-WBV) exposures has not yet been investigated. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine effect of a 20-minute different intensity SV-WBV application to the ankle plantar flexor and dorsiflexor muscles properties and hamstring flexibility. Design: Prospective preintervention-postintervention design. Setting: Physiotherapy department. Participants: A total of 50 recreationally active college-aged individuals with no history of a lower leg injury volunteered. Interventions: The SV-WBV was applied throughout the session with an amplitude of 2 to 4 mm and a frequency of 25 Hz in moderate-intensity vibration group and 40 Hz in a vigorous-intensity vibration group. Main Outcome Measures: The gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscle tone was assessed with MyotonPRO, and the strength evaluation was made on the same lower leg muscles using hand-held dynamometer. The sit and reach test was used for the lower leg flexibility evaluation. Results: The gastrocnemius muscle tone decreased on the right side (d=0.643, P=.01) and increased on the left (d = 0.593, P=.04) when vigorous-intensity vibration was applied. Bilateral gastrocnemius muscle strength did not change in both groups (P > .05). Without differences between groups, bilateral tibialis anterior muscle strength increased in both groups (P < .01). Bilateral gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscle tone did not change in the moderate-intensity vibration group (P > .05). Flexibility increased in both groups (P < .01); however, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups (d = 0.169, P = .55). Conclusions: According to study results, if SV-WBV is to be used in hamstring flexibility or ankle dorsiflexor muscle strengthening, both vibration exposures should be preferred. Different vibration programs could be proposed to increase ankle plantar flexor muscle strength in the acute results. The lack of evidence-based data in this area has led to variations in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to identify these differences and compare them with recommendations based on pathophysiology. The study was designed as an observational online survey of neonatologists from level 3 to 4 neonatal intensive care units caring for premature infants at increased risk of BPD and born before 28 weeks' gestation. Respondents were invited to participate in the study through the portal of the Turkish Neonatal Society. Participants were surveyed online about preferred ventilation modes, settings and clinical management of these patients through each respiratory distress syndrome, evolving BPD and severe BPD phases. A total of 39 centers involved in the study. Pressure-control assist-control volume-guaranteed was the most commonly preferred ventilation mode in respiratory distress syndrome and evolving BPD, while high frequency oscillatory ventilation was most commonly used in severe BPD. The use of synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation volume-guaranteed pressure support ventilation increased with disease progression. Ventilation settings were found to be changed according to pathophysiological recommendations, but not to the extent recommended. The study shows that early ventilation strategies are predominantly maintained in the later phases of BPD, although there are notable differences between centers.Article Adjacent Segment Disease (ASD) in Incidental Segmental Fused Vertebra and Comparison With the Effect of Stabilization Systems on ASD(Springernature, 2021) Hekimoglu, Mehdi; Basak, Ahmet; Yilmaz, Atilla; Yildirim, Hakan; Aydin, Ahmet Levent; Karadag, Kursat; ozer, Ali FahirObjective Adjacent segment disease is a controversial process after spine stabilization. The two important factors discussed are natural aging and hypermobility in incidental segmental fusion anomalies; patients have two or more fused vertebrae from birth, which are the results of spinal movement restriction due to the fusion of some spinal units. This article's main purpose is to determine the degree of relationship of hypermobility and the aging process in the deterioration of the disks adjacent to fusion. Methods In this study, the degenerative process developed by hypermobility in the adjacent segment due to incidental segmental fusion was evaluated. The MRI images of 52 adjacent and nonadjacent disks of 45 patients in total were analyzed according to the Pfirrmann grading systems. The average Pfirrmann rating of the disks just above and below the fused segment and the distant first, second, and third non-neighboring levels were evaluated and calculated, respectively. Results The highest rate of incidental fusion is determined on the cervical area with 51.9%, followed by the thoracal area with 32.7%, and the lumbar area with 15.4%. Damage to the adjacent segment disks in cases with incidental fusion can still be seen at any age, with fusion, indicating that the hypermobility effect plays a more prominent role. The evidence of hypermobility without aging is that the segments adjacent to fusion undergo more degeneration than the distant disks. Conclusion Adjacent segment disease is under the influence of many factors. Our findings suggest that its incidence is increasing with the pathological processes initiated by hypermobility. It seems that, at least, it carries equal importance as compared to age. Fusion surgeries damage the adjacent segments under the influence of the passage of time beyond the physiological aging of the patient.Article Aging Changes of the Superficial Fat Compartments of the Midface Over Time: A Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2020) Cenkeri, Halime Cevik; Guduk, Sukran Sarigul; Cicek, Esin DerinBACKGROUND Studies involving superficial facial fat compartments are few in number with conflicting results. Most of them involved small study groups and compared measurements between different populations of young and old subjects either on cadavers or living subjects. OBJECTIVE To clarify volumetric and dimensional changes in midfacial superficial fat compartment retrospectively in patients who underwent a repeat magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) without gross pathology. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 70 patients with a mean age of 60 years (range: 33-82 years) and a median elapsed time of 44.5 months (range: 32-64 months) between 2 MRIs were included. Magnetic resonance imaging scans were analyzed in the axial and sagittal planes to obtain measurements of the medial part of the superficial cheek fat. Superficial cheek fat was divided into 3 compartments. Thickness, width, and height were measured, and volumes were calculated for each compartment on both hemifaces. RESULTS Volume and thickness were decreased significantly in all compartments (p < .05). The width was decreased in superior and middle compartments, whereas increased in lower compartment indicating dislocation of the fat tissue (p < .05). Height was also significantly increased (p < .05). A subgroup analysis has shown that there was no significant difference between men and women. CONCLUSION This study clarifies that aging is associated with a significant decrease in superficial midfacial fat tissue volume and thickness both in women and men. The decrease in width in upper and middle compartments, but increase in lower compartment suggests a volume shift within superficial fat tissue.Article Airborne pathogen projection during ophthalmic examination(Springer, 2020) Bostanci Ceran, Basak; Karakoc, Alp; Taciroglu, ErtugrulPurpose Microscale droplets act as coronaviruses (CoV) carriers in the air when released from an infected person and may infect others during close contact such as ophthalmic examination. The main objective of the present work is to demonstrate how CoV deposited droplets are projected during biomicroscopy and to discuss what kind of precautions should be taken in ophthalmic practice. Methods A coupled fluid-structure system comprising smoothed particle hydrodynamics and the finite element method has been built to assess the projection of droplets spreading from an infected person. Different conditions based on the maximum exit flow velocity from the infector's mouth during the ophthalmic examination were modeled. Results During exhalation, for which the exit flow is similar to 1000 mm/s, the average horizontal distance of the flow front was similar to 200 mm while individual particles can reach up to similar to 500 mm. In case of coughing or sneezing (corresponding to an exit flow of similar to 12,000 mm/s), the average horizontal distance of the flow front was similar to 1300 mm. Conclusion During the ophthalmic examination, the proximity to the patient's nose and mouth was observed to be less than the horizontal distance of flow front particles. Even though mounted breath shields are used, particles flew beyond the shield and contaminate the ophthalmologist. Compared with the current protective breath shields, the use of a larger shield with a minimum radius of 18 cm is needed to decrease viral transmission.Article The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiplatelet effects of Ribes rubrum L. fruit extract in the diabetic rats(Wiley, 2022) Gulmez, Gizem; Sen, Ali; Sekerler, Turgut; Algul, Fatma Kader; Cilingir-Kaya, Ozlem Tugce; Sener, AzizeThe prothrombotic and inflammatory state plays a significant role in the occurrence of cardiovascular complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus. In this study, the antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antiplatelet potentials of the extracts obtained from Ribes rubrum were investigated. The antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities of the ethanol and water extracts of R. rubrum were evaluated by in vitro methods. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents were also determined. The experimental diabetes model in rats was induced with streptozotocin (STZ). After hyperglycemia occurred, the ethanol extracts of R. rubrum (RRE, at 100 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg doses) were administered to the treatment groups for 14 days. Blood glucose, lipid profile, plasma, and pancreas tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) levels were determined and compared at the end of the experiments. P-selectin levels and mitochondrial membrane polarization (MMP) of platelets were also measured. In vitro study, the RRE showed potent anti-inflammatory activity. Administration of RRE (at 100 mg/kg doses) to diabetic rats lowered blood glucose level insignificantly. The results showed that there was an increment in levels of TNF-alpha in plasma and pancreas tissue of the diabetic group compared to the control group. R. rubrum extract regulated and normalized their levels in plasma and pancreatic tissue. RRE at both doses significantly decreased platelet P-selectin levels and prevented STZ-induced loss of MMP in platelets. The results of current research indicate that RRE extract has potent anti-platelet and anti-inflammatory effects and may be beneficial in preventing diabetic complications. Practical applications Hyperglycemia causes dyslipidemia, advanced oxidative stress, platelet activation, and inflammation in diabetes mellitus. Plants with various medicinal properties are of worldwide interest for the treatment of diseases due to their biological activities. In this study, the antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects of extracts of Ribes rubrum (%100 ethanol, 50% ethanol, water) were evaluated by in vitro and in vivo methods. The diabetes model was induced with streptozotocin (STZ). The rats were divided into control, diabetic control, R. rubrum-100 mg/kg, and R. rubrum-500 mg/kg doses groups. Blood glucose levels, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), platelet P-selectin levels, mitochondrial membrane polarization of platelets were examined. The present study has shown that R. rubrum has anti-inflammatory and antiplatelet activity. R. rubrum may be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of DM complications due to its anti-inflammatory and antithrombotic effects.Article Any Instrument in a Surgeon's Hand can be Fatal: Unusual Iliac Artery Injury in Lumbar Spinal Deformity Surgery(Elsevier Science inc, 2020) Koban, Orkun; Akar, Ezgi; Ogrenci, Ahmet; Yilmaz, Mesut; Dalbayrak, SedatBACKGROUND: Vascular complications, which we rarely encounter during lumbosacral stabilization surgeries, can be life-threatening if they are not treated quickly. These arterial injuries occur during screw insertion. Our presentation with the common iliac artery injury during the decortication process in transverse processes with the "pedicle awl" will be the first case in the literature to our knowledge. CASE DESCRIPTION: Lumbosacral decompression and stabilization surgery was performed in a 57-year-old patient with L1-S1 spinal stenosis and scoliosis. After the stabilization process was completed, while decorticating the transverse processes with the pedicle awl, the tool fell to the paravertebral region, and then active arterial hemorrhage was observed at the surgical site. Hemostasis was achieved in the surgical field, but a rapid progressive drop was observed in the patient's blood pressure. The surgery was quickly terminated, and the patient was turned to the supine position. Vascular surgeons opened the abdomen with a midline laparotomy, and approximately 2600 mL hematoma was evacuated from the retroperitoneum. The 5-mm defect in the left common iliac artery was repaired by primary suturing. The patient had no problem in postoperative follow-up and was discharged on the 10th postoperative day. CONCLUSIONS: In these complications that we rarely encounter in lumbosacral stabilization surgeries, perioperative findings should be well evaluated, and rapid intervention should be made in cases in which vascular injury is considered. One must remember that every tool used during surgery can be dangerous even in an experienced hand.Review Application of 3D, 4D, 5D, and 6D bioprinting in cancer research: what does the future look like?(Royal Soc Chemistry, 2024) Khorsandi, Danial; Rezayat, Dorsa; Sezen, Serap; Ferrao, Rafaela; Khosravi, Arezoo; Zarepour, Atefeh; Zarrabi, AliThe application of three- and four-dimensional (3D/4D) printing in cancer research represents a significant advancement in understanding and addressing the complexities of cancer biology. 3D/4D materials provide more physiologically relevant environments compared to traditional two-dimensional models, allowing for a more accurate representation of the tumor microenvironment that enables researchers to study tumor progression, drug responses, and interactions with surrounding tissues under conditions similar to in vivo conditions. The dynamic nature of 4D materials introduces the element of time, allowing for the observation of temporal changes in cancer behavior and response to therapeutic interventions. The use of 3D/4D printing in cancer research holds great promise for advancing our understanding of the disease and improving the translation of preclinical findings to clinical applications. Accordingly, this review aims to briefly discuss 3D and 4D printing and their advantages and limitations in the field of cancer. Moreover, new techniques such as 5D/6D printing and artificial intelligence (AI) are also introduced as methods that could be used to overcome the limitations of 3D/4D printing and opened promising ways for the fast and precise diagnosis and treatment of cancer. This study aims to elucidate the role of asprosin in regulating the onset of puberty and its influence on hormonal profiles and ovarian histology.MethodsAsprosin was administered intraperitoneally (i.p.) at a dose of 500 ng/kg daily for eight weeks. Hormonal assays and histological analyses were performed to evaluate the effects of asprosin on the onset of puberty and reproductive function.ResultsDaily chronic administration of asprosin accelerated the onset of the first oestrus. Hormonal assays revealed significant elevations in serum levels of Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Oestradiol (E2), while Inhibin B levels decreased. Histological evaluations demonstrated an increased number of primary and secondary follicles in ovarian tissue, without affecting primordial follicle counts or reproductive organ weights.ConclusionsRole of adipokines in regulating puberty and reproductive function has increasingly gained recognition. This study aimed to provide the first comprehensive examination of the effects of daily chronic asprosin administration on pubertal and reproductive parameters in female rats. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in the trabecular structure of the mandibular condyle in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) using fractal analysis. Study Design. A total of 100 patients ages 18 to 73 years were clinically assessed using the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders. The control group was age-and sex-matched with the patient group. Panoramic radiographs were obtained using a Kodak 8000 digital device with 73 kVp and 5 mA fixed parameters. The degree of degeneration in the mandibular condyles was calculated. Regions of interest (84 X 84 pixels) were selected within the cortical boundary of the mandibular condyle, and the fractal dimension (FD) was calculated using ImageJ version 1.48. Results. Radiographic degenerative changes were more frequently present and more severe in the patient group (P < .001). The mean value of FD was 1.22 +/- 0.06 in the patient group and 1.25 +/- 0.06 in the control group (P = .001). A significant decrease in FD was observed (P = .001) in the left temporomandibular joints of the patient group, whereas a nonsignificant decrease in FD was observed in the right temporomandibular joints (P = .073) as degenerative changes increased. Conclusions. Lower FD values were associated with more severe degenerative changes in the patient group. The trabecular structure of condyles in patients with TMD exhibited decreased complexity when erosive and sclerotic changes were evident. As a result, fractal analysis enhanced the use of panoramic radiography in detecting degenerative changes in patients with TMD. Method The study group comprised of 100 patients who underwent surgery for symptomatic internal or external hemorrhoids; the control group consisted of 100 volunteers who received no prior therapy for hemorrhoidal disease and lacked any symptoms or findings suggestive of this condition. Subjects in both the groups were inquired with respect to their demographic data and risk factors. Both groups were asked to stand for two minutes before performing leg examinations while still in the standing position. The findings were recorded for both the groups. Varicose veins were classified according to the clinical appearance section of the Clinical, Etiologic, Anatomic, and Pathophysiologic (CEAP) classification that was developed by the 1994 American Venous Forum. Results There was no significant difference between the two groups with respect to age and body mass index (BMI). Significant relationships were identified between the groups with respect to the incidence of varicose veins and chronic constipation. The incidence of C1 and C2 varicose veins observed in the study group was higher than that observed in the control group. The incidence of chronic constipation was higher in the study group than that in the control group. Discussion Lower extremity chronic venous insufficiency is more common in patients with hemorrhoidal disease which increases intra-abdominal pressure. A chronic increase in this pressure causes conditions, such as constipation, which trigger both lower extremity chronic venous insufficiency and hemorrhoidal disease.Article Association between root taper and root proximity of single-rooted teeth with periodontitis: a cone-beam computed tomography based study(Springer, 2022) Aykol-Sahin, Gokce; Arsan, Belde; Altan-Koran, Serpil Melek; Huck, Olivier; Baser, UlkuThis study aimed to determine the association between the root taper and proximity of single-rooted teeth with periodontitis using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). CBCT images of 362 single-rooted teeth from 37 patients were evaluated. This case-control study analyzed 17 participants with stage II and III periodontitis, (n = 161 teeth, periodontitis group) and 20 participants with healthy periodontium (n = 201 teeth, control group). Multiplanar reconstructions were used for proximity measurements, and cross-sectional images for calculating the angle of the root tapers. Root proximity, root length, and root taper were measured. Multivariate binary logistic regression analysis was used to determine association with periodontitis. In the periodontitis group, the upper lateral root-taper was 18.33 degrees +/- 3.25 degrees and was significantly higher when compared to the control group (p = 0.001). The root taper of the lateral incisor was associated with the diagnosis of periodontitis (p = 0.01) with an odds ratio of 1.541 according to regression analysis. Root length was also identified as a potential protective parameter. The risk of being diagnosed with periodontitis decreases when root length increases by 0.785 times (p = 0.043). Upper canines in the periodontitis group presented shorter root lengths (p = 0.039) and higher root tapers (p = 0.01). Also, mandibular canines were closer form adjacent teeth in the periodontitis group (p = 0.042). This study indicated that short-root and increased root-taper at specific teeth could be considered as risk indicators for periodontitis.Article Association of Leptin Levels and Disease Activity in Patients With Early Rheumatoid Arthritis(Elsevier Science inc, 2021) Taylan, Ali; Akinci, Baris; Toprak, Burak; Birlik, Merih; Arslan, Fatma Demet; Ekerbicer, Hasan; Engin, BaharObjective. Previous studies have reported a link between metabolic parameters and disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), although the evidence is limited in early RA. We aimed to investigate the relationship between disease activity and adipocytokine levels in subjects with early RA. Methods. Forty-seven patients with early RA (symptom duration <12 months) were enrolled. Disease activity was determined by DAS28-CRP. Patients were treated with DMARDs according to the EULAR recommendations. Subjects were tested before and five months after treatment. Results. Early RA patients with high disease activity (DAS28-CRP > 4.9) had greater BMI (31.2 +/- 6.8 kg/m(2) vs. 26.7 +/- 4.1 kg/m(2); p = 0.006) and higher leptin levels (14.62 +/- 15.60 ng/mL vs. 7.82 +/- 8.00 ng/mL; p = 0.048). Levels of other adipocytokines were not significantly different. Leptin levels were similar in subjects with mild/moderate disease activity and controls. DAS28-CRP was correlated with leptin (r = 0.303, p = 0.039). Leptin levels decreased significantly after treatment (from 10.86 +/- 12.34 ng/mL to 9.22 +/- 9.29 ng/mL; p = 0.047) along with insulin levels (from 13.68 +/- 21.90 mU/L to 7.09 +/- 4.72 mU/L; p = 0.010) and HOMA-IR (from 4.39 +/- 9.53 to 1.70 +/- 1.38; p = 0.012). HDL cholesterol levels increased (from 41 +/- 10 mg/dL48 +/- 10 mg/dL; p <0.001). Conclusion. Leptin levels were associated with disease activity in patients with early RA and these levels decreased after treatment with DMARDs. Methods A descriptive study was carried out in October 2016 in cooperation with the Chamber of Pharmacists of Istanbul Province, Turkey. Data were collected by questionnaire, and pharmacists' total knowledge scores were calculated. Results The study comprised 101 participants, 86.1% of whom were women. Combined oral contraceptives were the most requested (97.0%) and supplied (94.1%) contraceptive method. The mean total knowledge score of pharmacists was 51.6 +/- 12.9 (median 54.0, range 14.0-72.0). Among pharmacists, 51.5% said they had never received any training about contraception. Conclusion The results showed that pharmacists providing contraceptive counselling services need continuing in-service training. The current regulations on the duties and responsibilities of pharmacists in Turkey involve the provision of counselling about medication use. Bacterial nanocelluloses (BNCs) have emerged as a promising solution in the field of wound healing and dressings due to their unique properties such as high crystallinity, mechanical strength, high purity, porosity, high water absorption capacity, biodegradability, biocompatibility, sustainability, and flexibility. BNC-based materials can be applied for the treatment of different types of wounds, from second-degree burns to skin tears, biopsy sites, and diabetic and ischemic wounds. BNC-based dressings have exceptional mechanical properties such as flexibility and strength, which ensure proper wound coverage and protection. The renewable nature, eco-friendly production process, longer lifespan, and potential for biodegradability of BNCs make them a more sustainable alternative to conventional wound care materials. This review aims to provide a detailed overview on the application of BNC-based composites for wound healing and dressings via highlighting their ability as a carrier for delivery of different types of antimicrobial compounds as well as their direct effect on the healing process. Background: Root canal disinfection is important for long-term endodontic success. Different laser systems are proposed as alternatives to conventional techniques in bacterial elimination. Materials and methods: Ninety-five straight, single-rooted premolars with similar canal dimensions were selected. After the mechanical preparation, the samples were sterilized, and root canals were infected with Enterococcus faecalis. The samples were randomly divided into five groups (n=15): 5% NaOCl, Er,Cr:YSGG, Er,Cr:YSGG +5% NaOCl, Er,Cr:YSGG + Diode, and control group. Results: The maximal bacterial elimination was observed in Er,Cr:YSGG + NaOCl group (p<0.005). More bacteria were found in Er,Cr:YSGG and Er,Cr:YSGG + Diode groups compared with 5% NaOCl group (p<0.005). Marginal significance was detected between the Er,Cr:YSGG group and the Er,Cr:YSGG + Diode group (p=0.091). Conclusions: The most successful E. faecalis elimination was obtained from laser-activated irrigation group. Artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbots are increasingly applied in healthcare for diagnostic support and patient education, but the reliability, quality, and readability of their outputs remain uncertain. International guidelines (AMA, NIH, European health communication frameworks) recommend that patient materials be written at a 6th-8th grade reading level, yet most online and AI-generated content exceeds this threshold. Methods: We compared responses from three AI chatbots-ChatGPT-4o (OpenAI), Gemini 1.5 Flash (Google), and DeepSeek-V3 (Deepseek AI)-to 20 frequently asked patient questions about RC tears. Four orthopedic surgeons independently rated reliability and usefulness (7-point Likert) and overall quality (5-point Global Quality Scale). Readability was assessed using six validated indices. Statistical analysis included Kruskal-Wallis and ANOVA with Bonferroni correction; inter-rater agreement was measured using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). Results: Inter-rater reliability was good to excellent (ICC 0.726-0.900). Gemini 1.5 Flash achieved the highest reliability and quality, ChatGPT-4o performed comparably but slightly lower in diagnostic content, and DeepSeek-V3 consistently scored lowest in reliability and quality but produced the most readable text (FKGL approximate to 6.5, within the 6th-8th grade target). None of the models reached a Flesch Reading Ease (FRE) score above 60, indicating that even the most readable outputs remained more complex than plain-language standards. Conclusions: Gemini 1.5 Flash and ChatGPT-4o generated more accurate and higher-quality responses, whereas DeepSeek-V3 provided more accessible content. No single model fully balanced accuracy and readability. Clinical Implications: Hybrid use of AI platforms-leveraging high-accuracy models alongside more readable outputs, with clinician oversight-may optimize patient education by ensuring both accuracy and accessibility. Its applications are particularly prominent in medical diagnostics, imaging, and therapy. Key uses of biophotonic (nano)structures include enhancing medical imaging and enabling biosensing to detect disease markers. In therapeutic contexts, these nanostructures show significant promise in photothermal and photodynamic therapies, improving imaging contrast and allowing for real-time monitoring of cellular processes. However, the field faces challenges such as fabrication complexities, scalability, biocompatibility, and integration with existing technologies. For instance, limited biocompatibility can lead to adverse immune responses or toxicity, hindering their safe use in vivo, while scalability issues restrict the mass production of nanostructures with consistent quality, both of which are critical for clinical translation. Moreover, integrating these materials with existing medical devices or workflows often requires redesigning current platforms, slowing down adoption. Despite these obstacles, the future of biophotonics appears promising, especially with advancements in nanotechnology, including 3D printing and self-assembly, which could streamline production. The potential integration of biophotonic nanostructures with emerging technologies like wearable devices and point-of-care diagnostics could revolutionize healthcare by facilitating continuous health monitoring and rapid disease detection. This review aims to provide a thorough examination of biophotonic nanostructures and their emerging applications in disease diagnosis, imaging, and therapy.
