Article Citation Count: 3A 3D finite element analysis of stress distribution on different thicknesses of mineral trioxide aggregate applied on various sizes of pulp perforation(Springer Heidelberg, 2020) Ozkurt-Kayahan, Zeynep; Turgut, B.; Akin, H.; Kayahan, M. B.; Kazazoglu, E.; Periodontoloji / PeriodontologyObjectives The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress distribution on different thicknesses of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) placed on various widths of pulp perforations during the condensation of the composite resin material. Materials and methods The mandibular molar tooth was modeled by COSMOSWorks program (SolidWorks, Waltham, MA). Three finite elemental analysis models representing 3 different dimensions of pulp perforations, 1, 2, and 3 mm in diameter, were created. The perforation area was assumed as filled with MTA with different thicknesses, 1, 2, and 3 mm for each pulp perforation width, creating a total of 9 different models. Then, a composite resin material was layered on MTA for each model. A 66.7 N load was applied and an engineering simulation program (ANSYS, Canonsburg, US) was used for the analysis. Results were presented considering von Mises stress criteria. Results As MTA thickness increased, the stress values recorded within the area between pulp and MTA decreased. Strain was decreased when the thickness of MTA increased. Conclusions Stresses at MTA-pulp interface and strain on MTA decreased with the increase in MTA thickness.Article Citation Count: 0Evaluation of the relationship between dental anxiety and oral health status of mothers and their children(Bmc, 2024) Besiroglu-Turgut, Ekin; Kayaalti-Yuksek, Sibel; Bulut, Muge; Pedodonti / Pedodontic; Periodontoloji / PeriodontologyBackgroundMothers usually have the primary role in raising children and developing health-related behaviors. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between dental anxiety and oral hygiene status of mothers and children's dental anxiety and gingival health.MethodsThe study included 305 children, aged 4-12 years, who came to the dentist for the first time and their mothers. All the demographic and oral hygiene information were collected through a questionnaire. The dental anxiety of the mothers and children was assessed using the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) and Venham Picture Test (VPT), respectively. The oral examination of the mother and children was performed, and their PI, GI, and DMFT scores were recorded.ResultsWhile the correlation between MDAS and VPT was positive and strong in children aged 8-12, it was positive but weak in the 4-7 age group. A significant relationship was detected between the mother's PI, GI, DMFT, and the child's VPT score. According to the mothers' dental anxiety, there were no statistically significant differences in PI, GI, and dmft values in children aged between 4 to 7. A moderately positive and statistically significant relationship between maternal dental anxiety and children's DMFT was identified in children aged 8-12.ConclusionsChildren's dental anxiety was significantly influenced by maternal dental anxiety, post-treatment complications experienced by the mother, and the oral health status of the mother.Trial registrationClinical Trials-ID: NCT05563532; Registration Date: 17.09.2022.Article Citation Count: 1Comparison of Er,Cr:YSGG laser and diode laser in the treatment of gingival melanin pigmentation: a randomized clinical trial(Springer London Ltd, 2023) Besiroglu-Turgut, Ekin; Kayaalti-Yuksek, Sibel; Periodontoloji / PeriodontologyThis investigation has aimed to compare the efficiency of clinical depigmentation and repigmentation rate of erbium chromium-doped: yttrium, scandium, gallium, garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) and diode lasers during a 1-year follow-up and to evaluate patient satisfaction. Twenty-two participants were divided into Er,Cr:YSGG laser and diode laser groups using computer-aided randomization. Dummett Oral Pigmentation Index (DOPI) and photographic assessment with ImageJ Software version 10.2 were performed at the preoperative period and postoperative 1st month, 6th month, and 12th month. Moreover, the study assessed intra- and postoperative intensities of pain and postoperative patient aesthetic satisfaction using the Visual Analog Scale in both groups. The median values of DOPI did not differ statistically between the groups according to time (p > 0.05). In the Er,Cr:YSGG group, the extension of repigmentation was less as compared to the diode group at 1-year follow-up (p = 0.045). In the Er,Cr:YSGG group, the patients felt less intraoperative pain and discomfort compared to the diode group (p = 0.007). No significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of patient aesthetic satisfaction at the 1st and 12th months. The findings indicate that diode and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers can be used safely in depigmentation treatment, while the Er,Cr:YSGG laser has been shown to have superiorities in pain management and patient comfort parameters. Methods Seven hundred and fifty systemically healthy individuals aged >= 18 years referred to a Periodontology Department were included in the study. The OHIP-14 scale and survey were applied to identify socio-demographic characteristics, oral hygiene characteristics, perceived oral health and oral hygiene consciousness levels. Three groups were established based on periodontal status (periodontally healthy [H], gingivitis [G] and periodontitis [P]) determined using periodontal indexes, and the relationship between the above-mentioned factors and periodontal status with quality of life was assessed. Results Oral health-related quality of life differed significantly by gender, marital status, education level, oral hygiene habits and periodontal status. A statistically significant positive relationship was found between high OHIP-14 scores and unfavourable socio-demographic characteristics, increased severity of periodontal disease, and irregular dental care practices. The perceived oral health and oral health consciousness levels significantly differed due to periodontal status. Conclusion Periodontal status, gender, marital status, education level, dental care practices, perceived oral health and oral hygiene consciousness levels are important determinants of oral health-related quality of life (Clinical Trial No. NCT03549247).
