    NANOTECHNOLOGY, SOCIETY AND NATIONAL SECURITY

    Nanotechnology is defined as one of the most important technologies of the 21st Century. The ability of technology to deliver possibilities far beyond the known borders so far has led the debates to be multi-faceted between hopes and concerns from obscurity. Scientific success stories of mankind that take centuries on any subject now take place in the processes expressed in hours. There are always new revolutionary results that make all of the stories written so far trivial. We have to rethink the words impossible and imagination" and now dreams do not seem so far from being real. With the "nano" phase of technology, the developments that will make a significant impact on every detail of our social life. We expect nanotechnology to be a paradigm shift in technology. As such, by fundamentally changing what is possible on offensive and defensive matters, nanotechnology has the potential to either cause harm or provide strategic advantage to a nation based on its level of readiness. Similarly, with the social media revolution, we have seen a lagged impact on social fabric through the impact of a new technology. We are recently noticing of these changes could be weaponized. Thus, such long term sociological impacts must also be considered.

    Social Media and Crisis Management: The Case Study of Cambridge Analytica

    The ever-growing use of new communication technologiesand their evolving functionality transform the use of social media in businesses. The views of socialmediathatareverydifferentfromeachother,sometimeseven diametrically opposed to each other, are put forward in terms of the effects of social media on individuals, social groups and society as a whole. Especially in crisis situations, through social media, businesses tend to communicate faster with their target audiences. However, they aim to protect their image and manage their reputation. In particular, the recent example of Cambridge Analytica, a company that analyzed social media data and utilized strategic management tools on social media, has had a serious role in the US elections and the crisis management of changing political balances caused by this social change has been loudly heard. In this study, a general theoretical framework related to social media and crisis management is presented, followed by views on the Cambridge Analytica crisis and its effects on Facebook.

    CONSTRUCTION OF ‘OTHERS’ IN RELATION TO TRANSNATIONAL EXPERIENCES: THE CASE OF STAYERS AND RETURNEES IN THE ASSYRIAN COMMUNITY LIVING IN TURKEY

    As a result of international developments, many communities had to "migrate" from their own country and tried to protect their existence by living their language and culture and transferring them to the next generations. However, some members of the immigrant communities returned to the land where they were born and migrated years later and tried to maintain this existence. Faced with immigration and Christian communities living in Turkey "Assyrians /Syriac" are also their native lands and those of their ancestors emigrated to European countries. The Assyrians were affected by both cultural changes with the migration phenomenon and the differences with their fellow countrymen who continued their lives by not migrating from the lands they lived in, along with the cultural units and changes they had acquired in the country they went to. In addition, the fact that this community was forced into the migration phenomenon by the Kurds living in the region and that they had to live together on their return was also discussed. With the return of the Assyrians, how the historical ties and cultures are similar among their citizens in the place they came from and what they have contributed to common life, the reflection of the past difficulties with the other ethnic element Kurds in the region, and the fact that they were examined in the light of the results obtained from one-on-one interviews in the field are the essence of this article.

    YENİ DÜNYA DÜZENİNİN OLUŞUMU: EKONOMİK VE SOSYOLOJİK ANLAMDA YENİ DÜNYA DÜZENİNİN ETKİLERİ

    Ekonomik gelişme ile eş tutulan güç unsurunun devletler açısından öneminin anlaşılması ile birlikte ekonomikkalkınmaya yönelik faaliyetler gündeme gelmiştir. Sanayi Devrimi sonucunda artan üretim ile daha müreffehbir yaşama ulaşılsa da bu gelişme yeterli görülmemiş ve zamanla daha büyük kazanımlar elde edebilmeyeyönelik atılımlar yapılmıştır. Ekonomik gelişmelerin teknolojik gelişmelerle iç içe geçmesi sonucunda küreselanlamda bir pazar ortaya çıkmış ve ticari faaliyetlerde sınır kavramı giderek ortadan kalkmaya başlamıştır.Ancak gelişmeler her zaman istenen sonuçları doğurmamıştır. Nitekim dünya genelinde ekonomik anlamdasorunların ortaya çıktığı “kriz” dönemlerinin de yaşandığı bilinmektedir. II. Dünya Savaşı’ndan sonra ekonomikanlamda yaşanan olumsuz durumlar ülkelerin bu durumlardan kurtuluş çareleri aramasını beraberindegetirmiştir. Bu çare arayışları geçmiş dönemler için uygun ve tecrübe edilmiş bir sistem olan kapitalist sisteminyeniden yapılandırılmasını gündeme getirmiştir. Eski sistemin canlandırılmasına yönelik bu çabalar isesonuçları itibariyle oldukça büyük eleştirilere maruz kalan “yeni dünya nizamatı”, “yeni dünya sistemi” veya“yeni dünya düzeni” adı verilen yapının ortaya çıkması sonucunu doğurmuştur.Amaç: çalışmada “yeni dünya düzeni” olarak ifade edilen yapının ekonomik, sosyal vb. olgularla küreselanlamda yaptığı etkileri ve bu bağlamda dünyada değişen veya gelişen güç dengelerini ortaya koymakamaçlanmıştır.Yöntem: Çalışmanın amacı doğrultusunda literatürde benzer konularla ilgili çalışmalarda yer verilen hususlarincelenerek bir araya getirilmiş ve bir derleme çalışma oluşturulmuştur.Bulgular: Yeni dünya düzeni olarak adlandırılan sistem ekonomik krizler açısından belirli çözümler veyarahatlamalar sağlamakla birlikte belli başlı problemlerin temel kaynağı olma özelliğine sahiptir. Nitekim yenidünya düzeni uygulamaları ile özellikle çalışanların sorunlar yaşaması ile gelişen olaylar ekonomik anlamdakikrizin sosyal bir krize dönüşmesi sonucunu doğurmuştur.Özgünlük: Konuya ilişkin konuların sosyolojik açıdan bir arada ele alınması nedeniyle çalışma literatüre katkısağlayacaktır.
