Abstract
The aim of this Study is; to assess the tendency of people to orthorexia nervosa (ON ) disorder according to gender, age and body mass index variability. This study was conducted with the participation of 115 students (5 males, 110 females) who continue their undergraduate education at Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at İstanbul Bilim University. The data were collected using the 'questionnaire method' and interviewed face-to-face with the participants. Socio-demographic characteristics (sex, age, accommodation etc.) of the participants were questioned and anthropometric measurements were registered. In addition , 'Eating Attitude Test ( YTT-40)' was used to evaluate eating disorders, 'ORTO-15 Test ' was used to identify ON and ' Obsessive Symptom Test' was used to evaluate obsessive symptoms. 95.5% of the individuals were female and 0.5% were male. 67.3% of female individuals and all male individuals had normal body mass index (BMI) values. Male individuals' YTT-40 scores and obsessive scores were higher than female subjects. Whereas women's ORTO-15 scores were higher than men's (p>0,05). It has been determined that there is a significant difference between individuals' smoking and obsessive score (p<0,05). There was no statistically significant difference between their BMI groups, their accommodation and alcohol use status (p>0,05). In the analysis of the correlations made with scales; there was a negative directional, statistically significant correlation between ORTO-15 and obsessive scores (p<0,05). As a result; it would be beneficial toundertake more extensive studies in which ON and related factors are assessed. Key words: College students, Orthorexia nervosa, Obsessive symptoms, Eating score
