Abstract
Our aim in this thesis study is to examine the change in the amount of force required for the opening of the mechanisms of the passive self ligating brackets exposed to intraoral environment for 12 weeks period in vitro and to evaluate the correlation of changes in needed minimum forces with biomarkers such as the Debris Index or Plaque Index and Oral Hygiene Index depending on the individual. Scorings regarding the Periodontal Indexes measurements before bracket cementation in a total of 20 individuals, and force measurements on passive self ligating brackets with a digital force gauge before and after the intraoral exposure formed the material of our study. The individuals included in the study average was17.4 ±2.9 of age .Care was taken to ensure that participants was aged 12 or older, had transitioned to permanent dentition, and was systemically healthy. During the cementation of the brackets, 2 passive self ligation RMO Altitude SL (Rocky Mountain Orthodondics, Colorado, USA) brackets were cemented to the lingual surfaces of the lower canine teeth of individuals with and at the end of 12 weeks the brackets were removed with a cutting plier and the tooth surface was filled with tungsten carbide burs then cleaned and polished with a rubber bur. Before and after intraoral exposure, each bracket was placed on the experimental setup with its clips closed, and its clips were opened 3 times, and the force was measured in total 6 times for each bracket in grams. A total of 222 force measurements were made for 37 brackets. The correlation between the Debris Index, Plaque Index and Oral Hygiene Index scores made by a single researcher on the individuals participating in the study and the minimum amount of force required to open the bracket clips was statistically evaluated. Statistically speaking, the increase seen between force measurements made at time T0 and time T1 is statistically significant. No correlation was found between the amount of changes in resistance to opening and periodontal scoring.
