Abstract
Opera and Musical Theatre forms, which immediately come to mind when the performing arts are considered, still maintain their popularity today and expand their corpus with new works. The Art of Opera, which includes many types of art (dance, painting, literature, theatre, etc.) within, is followed by Operetta and Musical Theatre, which developed afterwards and shared fundamental similarities in terms of form. These branches of the performing arts family were influenced by one another a great deal and even used the same themes from time to time. An instance to this is the musical 'Aida', composed by Elton John, but the subject and general theme of which is entirely from Giuseppe Verdi's opera of the same name. However, it can be said that they draw near to each other not only as subject but also as form at times. Of course, classical perception underlies these types. But over time, like Opera especially the Musical Theatre has evolved until today by developing and transforming. In this study, the historical process starting with the Art of Opera to Operetta and the Musical Theatre has been examined, and the subjects of selected works of Musicals with Operetta and Opera features are explained and compared in terms of vocal performing techniques. The Operettas 'Die Fledermaus (The Bat) Operetta' and 'Die Csárdásfürstin (Csardas Princess) Operetta' and the Musicals 'My Fair Lady' and 'Phantom of The Opera' are selected as study subjects. In this thesis, literature was reviewed, and sources in foreign languages were examined, especially in the field of Musical, due to the scarcity of Turkish sources. In the light of the collected data, it is aimed to constitute a resource for our colleagues working on the relevant field.
