Diyabetlilerde tatlandırıcı ve diyet diyabetik ürün kullanım durumu
Abstract
Diabetics can use sweeteners and diet/diabetic products to create diversity within their lifelong medical nutritional therapies. The study was conducted between October and December 2017 with a total of 134 adult participants, mean age was 52,46 ± 11,74 years with 85 (63,4%) female and 49 (36,6%) male. The purpose of this study is to determine the dietary patterns of diabetics' use of sweeteners and diet/diabetic products, reasons for using/not using them, and types of sweeteners consumed. It was determined that 79,1% of the participants did not use any sweetener. Diabetics who use sweeteners prefer Splenda (6%), followed by Stevia (3%), Sakarin (3%), Canderel (3%) and Dulcaryl (0,7%). The most common reasons why they are not using them were 'harmful to health' (29,1%), followed by 'dislike taste' (18,4%) and 'expensive price' (5,2%). When the causes of use of sweeteners were examined, it was determined that diabetics prefer sweeteners and diet/diabetic products do not contain sugar at most 11,9% and they do not contain calories at 8,2%. According to their diet / diabetic products preference, they chose mostly diet biscuits/crackers (17,2%), followed by diet drinks (13,4%) and light fruity yogurt (11,9%), diet puddings (9%), diet ice cream (8,2%), diabetic jam/marmalade (6%), diabetic chocolate (5,2%) and diet dessert (3%). The study found that type 2 diabetics consumed more diet ice cream and diet chocolates than type 1 diabetics (p< 0,05). Also, it was found that females cook much more desserts containing sweeteners at home than males do (p <0.05). As a result of this study, it has been found that diabetics do not have enough knowledge about sweeteners. Diabetics need to be aware that they can use sweeteners and diet / diabetic products instead of sugar in the context of healthy nutritional practices.
