Abstract
Introduction: A limited number of repertoires are available for musical accompaniment in classical ballet lessons in conservatories. Playing melodies adapted from classical ballets in ballet classes is pivotal for students to be familiar with the music of these works. However, since these scores had been composed to fit specific choreographies, their direct use during lessons for the purposes of accompanying education is unsuitable. Therefore; the adaptation of classical pieces by ballet pianists will contribute to ballet music literature and will provide an accumulation of knowledge in the long term. The hereby work was produced to familiarize those students who are candidates to become ballet artists with the music of the Don Quixote ballet, a prominent piece within the classical ballet repertoire, and to deem it applicable in classical ballet lessons in conservatories. Method: The hereby thesis is based on the scores of the 1940-version of the ballet Don Quixote. The entire book has been reviewed, and the sections deemed suitable for use in lessons by playing on the piano have been noted. Care has been taken to ensure that these selected parts are suitable for the characters of the exercises performed at school and that their duration is sufficient for these movements. Discussion and Conclusion: Throughout this thesis, the appropriate parts of the Don Quixote ballet have been adapted for use in ballet lessons. Suggested adapted pieces in accordance with the order of the ballet lessons and movement to be studied are specified. Thus, the music of the Don Quixote ballet, one of the most important works within the classical ballet repertoire, has been made available to be employed in classical ballet lessons in conservatories. The music can be used as a source for ballet accompanist pianists.
