Abstract
Bulgular: Sağlık çalışanlarının 15'i kadın ve 20'si evli olup 15'i birimde çalışmaya başlamadan önce ameliyathane oryantasyon programına katılmadığını ifade etmiştir. Objective: In this study, it is aimed to determine the risks encountered, the precautions taken and the suggestions offered regarding the patient and employee safety in the operating room during the Covid-19 pandemic process, based on the experiences of the operating room staff. Method: In this study, which was conducted with the qualitative research method, the sample of the study consisted of 25 healthcare professionals, including specialist doctors, anesthesiologists, anesthesia technicians/technicians and nurses working in the operating room of İzmir Urla State Hospital. Semi-structured interview technique was used in data collection and data were collected between 15 June and 15 August 2021. During the interview, audio was recorded with prior permission, and MAXQDA 2022 program and SPSS 21.0 program were used to analyze the obtained data. Content analysis method was used for the data obtained from the semi-structured interview form. Results: Of the healthcare professionals, 15 are women and 20 are married, and 15 of them stated that they did not participate in the operating room orientation program before they started working in the unit. While interpreting the data obtained from the semi-structured interview form, the themes for patient and employee safety were specified separately, and accordingly, four themes were created for patient safety and three themes for employee safety. Themes determined for patient safety in the operating room during the Covid-19 pandemic process; 'protocol for patient safety', 'risk factors threatening patient safety', 'measures taken for patient safety' and 'recommendations for patient safety' are the themes determined for employee safety; They are grouped under the headings of 'risk factors threatening employee safety', 'measures taken for employee safety' and 'recommendations for employee safety'. These themes were then divided into categories, and sample opinions about each category and the number of health professionals who gave their opinions were included. Conclusion: In this study, it was concluded that the Covid-19 pandemic process initially increased the concerns of health workers, and as the process progressed, the anxiety of the personnel decreased with the training provided. In this process, it was revealed that the patients did not know how to use masks, so the employees were also in a difficult situation. Patient safety and employee safety are complementary to each other; It can be said that if employee safety is ensured, patient safety can also be ensured.
