Abstract
This study has discussed the strategies of managing stress, level of hopelessness and marital satisfaction of women receiving infertility treatment, and also investigated the relationship between them. In Istanbul, 143 women aged 20-50 years receiving infertility treatment have been randomly selected for the study. 'Socio-Demographic Form', 'Marriage Satisfaction Scale', 'Beck Hopelessness Scale' and 'Ways of Coping with Stress Scale' have been used to obtain data. The data obtained from 'Ways of Coping with Stress Scale', 'Beck Hopelessness Scale' and 'Marriage Satisfaction Scale' has been tested considering scale type. In this study, parametric and non-parametric test techniques have been used together. The 'Ways of Coping with Stress Scale' is a Likert-type scale, which consists of seven sub-dimensions. The relationship between managing stress, Beck hopelessness and marital satisfaction has been tested with Spearman Rho correlation to examine the relationship between variables and to test research hypotheses. The reason for the use of Spearman Rho correlation is that Beck hopelessness and marital satisfaction scales are suitable for non-parametrıc test techniques and not Likert-type scales. It has been studied the relationship between the strategies of coping with the stress, level of hopelessness and marital satisfaction of those who receive infertility treatment. Additionally, the relationship between these variables and demographic factors has been studied. Positive and negative reactions from outside may also affect the level of the hopelessness of women receiving the infertility treatment. It has not been found a relationship between the external reactions (changes in the attitude of the spouses, the reaction of spouses' family, the reaction of women's family), the level of hopelessness and marital satisfaction. Spouses with high marital satisfaction usually face and deal with problems together. It can be seen that the level of hopelessness decrease when marital satisfaction increases in women receiving infertility treatment. Additionally, the duration of treatment and marriage can affect both the level of hopelessness and marital satisfaction. In conclusion, in this study; hypotheses were established that there were relationships between Treatment Duration, Marriage Duration and Level of Hopelessness and also Treatment Duration, Marriage Duration and Marriage Satisfaction. However no relationships were found for these hypotheses. The predicted hypothesis between psychological support, social support and the level of hopelessness has not been occurred, as it has been decided the relationship between them is senseless. Additionally, it has been found that the rise in Education Level and Income Level is a factor to reduce the Level of Hopelessness for women whom receiving infertility treatment. Keywords: Infertility, Coping with Stress, Hopelessness, Marital Satisfaction
