Abstract
Green Building movement has grown in Yemen/Sana'a for the last decade for environmental and financial reasons directly related to energy consumption and cost, but the main reason is the situation that the country is going through these years because of the war and the power outage continuously. Before the power outage, people used the electricity provided by the government with crude oil. However, the interruption of electricity and water continued, people are moving towards sustainable energy and rational usage of water. On the other hand, construction technology is still the same like using the materials without insulators and concrete bricks. Now a days in Sana'a there are nearly 65% of the buildings are using the basics of the zero energy building (ZEB) like using solar panels, trying to use less electricity and less water. People also understand how to rationalize using of electricity and water inside the buildings by using low-voltage electrical devices. The thesis provides a list of recommendations for best economically feasible design solutions and system selections that can lead to a near ZEB in Sana'a for residential buildings. The Thesis presents a list of recommendations for the most cost-effective design solutions and system selection that can lead to the proximity of the ZEB in Sana'a to residential buildings by studying some of the existing buildings from other countries and comparing them with existing buildings in Sana'a.
