Abstract
In research, the aim of the study was to determine the health literacy levels of mothers with 0-1 year old children and their attitude levels towards endocrine disruptors and to reveal the relationship between them. The research, with a cross-sectional descriptive and correlation-seeking design, was conducted with 733 mothers with 0-1 year old children registered in 27 Family Health Centers in Istanbul Sancaktepe district between October 2023 and March 2024. Research data were obtained with the Socio-Demographic Characteristics Form consisting of 13 questions, the Health Literacy Scale Short Form and the Endocrine Disruptors Attitude Scale. Mothers' health literacy and attitudes towards endocrine disruptors were found to be above medium level. A highly direct correlation was found between mothers' health literacy and their attitudes towards endocrine disruptors. Among the mothers included in the study, working mothers with high levels of education and income were found to have high health literacy and attitudes towards endocrine disruptors. It was determined that 46% (n:338) of the mothers had heard of the definition of endocrine disruptors, and 43% (n:145) of those who had heard of the definition of endocrine disruptors through social media. It has been determined that mothers give the most importance to the content of the products they shop for their babies, and the products that they think may have endocrine disrupting content are plastic feeding utensils, followed by cleaning and cosmetic products. It is recommended to conduct more comprehensive studies in different groups to determine the current situation regarding health literacy and attitudes towards endocrine disruptors, and to prepare trainings and programs to increase health literacy and attitudes towards endocrine disruptors.
