Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the reliability and validity of the 'Multiple Sclerosis Questionnaire for Physiotherapists (MSQPT)', a questionnaire used to evaluate the effect of physiotherapy on quality of life in patients with multiple sclerosis. Method: The 30 items of the 'Multiple Sclerosis Questionnaire for Physiotherapists' were translated into Turkish by the back translation method. Our study included 150 patients (79 females, 71 males) with a definite diagnosis of MS, who were over 18 years of age, had no attacks for at least 1 month, and had an EDSS score ≤ 6.5. Turkish MSQPT scale, Mini Mental State Test (MMSE), and Multiple Sclerosis International Quality of Life Questionnaire (MusiQoL) were applied to the patients with the evaluation form. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated to analyze the internal consistency for the reliability of the questionnaire. For test-retest reliability, 15 days later for the second time Turkish MSQPT forms were applied to 30 patients. Parallel form reliability was assessed with MusiQoL. Explanatory factor analysis was conducted for construct validity. Findings/Conclusion: A structure explaining 47.94% of the total variance was obtained as a result of the factor analysis. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be high in the internal consistency of our study. (α = 0.877). Since the difference between first responses and the repeated test results became meaningful, the article, 'I can take shower by myself.' was removed from the scale item. The correlation between item correlations of all other questions was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). The correlation coefficient between Turkish MSQPT and MusiQoL were found to be highly correlated (r=0.573; p<0.001). Also, the Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin (KMO) measure of sampling adequacy was determined to be 0.887 and this result showed that the data are suitable for factor analysis. Barlett test p value showed that factor analysis was appropriate (p<0.001). As a result of our study, it was determined that the Turkish MSQPT was a valid and reliable scale. It can be used to evaluate the effect of physiotherapy on quality of life in patients with multiple sclerosis.
