Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate how core self-evaluations and social support affect the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction among emergency service workers. In addition, the relationships between job stress, job satisfaction, core self-evaluations, social support and demographic variables such as gender, age, educational status, occupation group, service duration were examined. 267 emergency service workers from various hospitals in Istanbul voluntarily participated in the study. Data was collected through Job-Induced Tension Scale, Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, Core Self-Evaluations Scale, Social Support Scale and Demographic Information Sheet. The results of the analysis indicated that the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction is not moderated neither by core self-evaluations nor social support. Job stress was found to be negatively related with job satisfaction, core self-evaluations and social support. On the other hand, job satisfaction was discovered to be positively related with core self-evaluations and social support. The research findings were discussed in the light of the related literature; limitations of the study were specified and suggestions for future research were presented.
