Abstract
Araştırma verilerinin istatistiksel analizleri SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) programı ile yapılmıştır.
In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship of perceived parental acceptance and rejection with self- esteem and psychosomatic symptoms in young adults. For this purpose, 483 people between the ages of 22-40 living in Turkey participated in the research. 386 (79.9%) of the participants were female and 97 (20.1%) were male. Data collection tools of the research is; 'Personal Information Form', which includes questions about the personal information of the participants created by the researcher, 'Parental Acceptance-Rejection Scale' to determine parental acceptance and rejection, 'Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale' to measure self-esteem, 'Bodily Sense Exaggeration Scale' to measure psychosomatic symptoms. Statistical analyzes of the research data were made with the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program. Reliability analysis and descriptive analysis of each scale were performed separately. Then, inter-scale correlation analysis, regression analysis and double mediator analysis were performed. According to the results of the study, the participants with high rejection scores by their parents had lower self-esteem than the participants who were approved by their parents. It was also revealed that participants who were rejected by their parents felt more bodily sensations than those who were approved by their parents. It has also been found that self-esteem has a mediating role in the relationship between perceived parental acceptance and rejection and psychosomatic symptoms. The findings were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature; the limitations of the research are stated and suggestions for future studies are presented.
