Abstract
Bu çalışma; Kocaeli Kartepe ilçesinde bulunan özel bir ağız sağlığı kliniğine çürük şikayetiyle başvuran 169 hastanın, beslenme alışkanlıklar ile ağız sağlığı arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amacıyla planlanmış ve yürütülmüştür. Çalışmaya 56 yetişkin erkek (%33,1) ve 113 yetişkin kadın (% 66,9) katılmıştır. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan; kişilerin demografik özellikleri ve beslenme alışkanlıklarını sorgulayan anket formu, üç günlük besin tüketim kaydı, ağız sağlığını ölçmek için Ağız Sağlığı Etki Ölçeği (OHIP-14 TR) kullanılmıştır. Bunun yanında çürükten etkilenmiş diş sayısını bulmak için katılımcıların ağız muayeneleri uzman diş hekimi tarafından yapılmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda; katılımcıların DMFT değeri minimum 2; maksimum 12, DMFT ortalaması 5,71±2,74 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Kişilerin BKİ sınıflandırmaları incelendiğinde %5,9'unun 'zayıf', %66,9'unun 'normal', %21,9'unun 'fazla kilolu', %5,3'ünün 'obez' olduğu ve BKİ ortalamasının 23,38±3,70 kg/m2 olduğu tespit edilmiştir. OHIP 14 SC ortalaması 22,67±6,24 ve OHIP 14 A ortalaması 5,85±3,15 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Katılımcıların protein tüketimi ile OHIP-14 SC skorları arasında anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur (p<0,05). Süt ve süt ürünlerinin tüketim sıklığı sorgulanmış ve süt ürünleri tüketim sıklığı ile ağız sağlığı skorları arasında anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur (p<0,05). Ayrıca şekerli yiyecekler ve içecekler tüketen grupta ağız sağlığının, şekerli yiyecek ve içecek tüketmeyen gruba göre daha zayıf olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır (p<0,05). Sonuç olarak beslenme alışkanlıkları genel sağlığı ve ağız sağlığını etkileyebilir. Ağız sağlığını sağlamak ve korumak için oral hijyen uygulamalarına dikkat edilmeli, düzenli ağız muayenesi yaptırılmalı ve besin seçimlerine ve tüketim sıklığına dikkat edilmelidir. This study was designed and conducted to investigate the relationship between dietary habits and oral health among 169 patients who presented with dental caries complaints to a private oral health clinic in Kartepe, Kocaeli. The study included 56 adult males (33.1%) and 113 adult females (66.9%). The data collection tools used in the study were a questionnaire prepared by the researcher to inquire about individuals' demographic characteristics and dietary habits, a three-day food consumption record, and the Oral Health Impact Profile Scale (OHIP-14 TR) to assess oral health. In addition, the participants' dental examinations were performed by a specialist dentist to determine the number of decayed teeth. The analysis revealed that the mean DMFT score of the participants was 5.71±2.74, with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12. When examining the participants' BMI classifications, it was found that 5.9% were classified as 'underweight,' 66.9% as 'normal weight,' 21.9% as 'overweight,' and 5.3% as 'obese,' with a mean BMI of 23.38±3.70 kg/m2. The mean OHIP-14 SC score was calculated as 22.67±6.24, and the mean OHIP-14 A score was calculated as 5.85±3.15. Significant relationships were found between protein consumption and OHIP-14 SC scores (p<0.05). The frequency of milk and dairy product consumption was queried, and significant relationships were found between the consumption frequency of dairy products and oral health scores (p<0.05). Furthermore, it was concluded that the oral health of the group consuming sugary foods and beverages was weaker compared to the group that did not consume sugary foods and beverages (p<0.05). In conclusion, dietary habits can affect overall health and oral health. To maintain and preserve oral health, attention should be given to oral hygiene practices, regular dental check-ups, and careful food choices and consumption frequency.
