Abstract
Eating disorders have become a major health problem in all societies. It is very important to identify risk factors in the prevention and treatment of these disorders. One of the most important risk factors for eating disorders is parental attitude. In this study, the relationship between perceived parental attitude and eating disorders was investigated. In a medical center in Kırklareli, two groups consisting of 30 women, aged 20-30, with and without eating disorders, were formed. Anthropometric measurements of all individuals were taken and a survey form consisting of a total of 30 questions and 3 main sections was applied by the researcher. REZZY Eating Disorders Scale, Eating Awareness Scale and Young Parenting Scale were administered to all participants. A retrospective 3-day food consumption record of the participants was recorded by the researcher. In line with these data, the relationship between perceived parental attitude and eating disorders was investigated. It was found that the BMI averages and waist-hip ratios of those with eating disorders were lower than those of participants without eating disorders (p<0.05). It was determined that the people with ED in the study were forced to eat much more by their parents when they were children than the people without ED (p<0.05). Daily energy and protein intake was found to be lower and inadequate in patients with ED compared to those without ED (p<0.05). In the results of working; It was found that the perceived parental attitude caused an eating disorder and that the perceived parental attitude from the mother was more effective than that of the father. Eating disorders found in children of emotionally deprived mothers. It was found that participants with high eating awareness perceived negative attitudes from their parents less than those with low eating awareness. Identifying the risk factors of eating disorders, which have become a health problem, raising awareness among parents and providing individuals with eating awareness are very important in protecting public health and preventing the risk of disease. In this context, individuals should be given healthy nutrition education from a young age and support should be given to training and projects that will raise parents' awareness on this issue. Key Words: Parental attitude, eating disorders, eating awareness, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa
