Abstract
Mesut Cemil Bey, 20. yüzyılın ilk yarısında Türkiye'de müzik alanındaki en önemli isimlerden biri olarak kabul edilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, onun müzik ideolojisi, Türk müziğindeki modernleşme hareketleri bağlamında ele alınmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra onun yaşamı, sanat ve fikir dünyası, dünyayı olduğu gibi Türkiye'yi de etkileyen 'modernizm' ve 'ideoloji' kavramları üzerinden okunmaya ve değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın ikinci bölümünde, Mesut Cemil Bey'in öncelikle, doğduğu, yetiştiği çevre, eğitim hayatı, kişiliği, resmi görevleri ve eserlerini içeren kısa yaşam öyküsü ele alınmış, bu kısım daha sonraki bölümlerde değinilecek olan onun ideolojik perspektifine, modernleşme çalışmalarına zemin oluşturmuştur. Çalışmanın üçüncü bölümünde, 'Modernleşme' ve 'İdeoloji' kavramlarının tarihsel arka planı ve tanımları ayrı başlıklar halinde incelenmiştir. Bu kavramların Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nu ve erken Cumhuriyet dönemi Türkiye'sinin yönetici elitinin zihnini ve söylemlerini nasıl etkilediği meselesi ayrıntılı bir biçimde ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın dördüncü bölümünde de, toplumdan bireye geçilerek, çalışmamızın ana konusu olan Mesut Cemil Bey'in müzik ideolojisi, daha önceki bölümlerde ifade edilen ve onu kuşatan bütün bu kişisel, ailesel, çevresel ve dönemsel unsurlar ile ilişkilendirilerek değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Mesut Cemil Bey'in titiz müzik icrâcılığının yanında, sorumluluk bilinci yüksek bir entelektüel ve bir müzik ideoloğu olarak, gelenek ile modernizm arasında denge oluşturma çabaları, dönemin koşulları azami ölçüde göz önünde tutularak sunulmaya çalışılmıştır.
Mesut Cemil Bey is regarded as one of the prominent names of the first half of the twentieth century in Turkey in the field of music. In this study, his ideology of music was analysed in terms of modernization movements in Turkish music. In addition to this, his life, art and thoughts were tried to be read and discussed with reference to the concepts of 'modernism' and 'ideology' which affected Turkey as well as the World. The second chapter of the study deals primarily with Mesut Cemil Bey's short biography comprising of the environment in which he was born and raised, his educational background, personality, official duties and works of art. This part has provided basis for his ideological perspective and works in modernization which will be discussed in the next parts. In the third chapter of the study, historical backgrounds and definitions of the concepts of Modernization and Ideology were analysed separately. How these concepts affected The Ottoman Empire, and the minds and discourse of the managing elites of the early Republican period of Turkey was discussed in detail. In the fourth chapter, Mesut Cemil Bey's ideology which has been the main topic of our study was tried to be discussed with reference to the personal, familial, environmental and periodical factors which have been mentioned in previous chapters and which pervaded him. Mesut Cemil Bey's being a meticulous music performer, sense of responsibility, and efforts to find a balance between tradition and modernism as an outstanding intellectual and music ideologist were tried to be presented by paying great attention to the conditions of the period.
