Abstract
In the study, it was aimed to evaluate the effects of negative emotions and fear experienced due to the disruption of formal education during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the disruption of the usual or expected university life process on emotional appetite and eating behaviors. The research is a cross-sectional and descriptive survey based on quantitative analysis. 385 students from Istanbul Okan University were included in the study. Data were analyzed at 95% confidence level. In the study, it was determined that COVID-19 had no effect on emotional eating, had an increasing effect on restrictive eating by 1.6%, and had no effect on external eating. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the students ate less than normal in their emotional appetite, they followed a slightly restrictive eating approach due to fears of COVID-19, and they had insufficient food intake in terms of fluorine and potassium. Based on these results, it is thought that there may be deficiencies in the level of healthy nutrition knowledge in the students, who are the majority of young people. It is recommended to increase the nutritional part of health literacy with more congress and media support for the precautions to be taken in future epidemics, physical activity and nutritional habits.
