Abstract
The study was planned and conducted in the aim of examining the effects of long-term nutrition education given to nursing students on nutrition knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of individuals. The study was conducted between September 2020 and April 2021 at Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University, School of Health, Nursing Department. The population of the study consists of 107 students. The sampling method was not used in the study. 78 students (%38,5 male, %61,5 female) who accepted to participate in the study and did not receive nutrition education before constitute the population of the study. In the study, a questionnaire developed by the researcher was used and data were collected in the steps of pre-test, mid-test and post-test with accompanying forms. In data collection, 'Demographic Information Form', 'Questions on Food Choice and Nutritional Behavior Status', International Short Form of Physical Activity Scale, Anthropometric Measurement Form, 'YETBİD' and Food Consumption Frequency Registration Form were applied online. Statistically significant difference was found among the knowledge test scores collected before, after, and 3 months after the nutrition education provided to the students: (χ2=10.872; p=0.004), YETBİD – basic nutrition scores (χ2=7.580; p=0.023), YETBİD – food preference scores (χ2=15.028; p =0.001), the amount of raw vegetables consumed (χ2=29.777; p=0.000) and the amount of fresh fruit consumed (χ2=18.562; p=0.000) (p<0.05). It was observed that the pre-test nutrition knowledge scores of the students increased after the nutrition education. Education should be planned for the needs of the individual and society; however, large-scale studies with larger samples are needed to evaluate the effects of education. Keywords: Nutrition Behavior, Nutrition Education, Nutrition Attitude, Physical Activity
