Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between perfectionism (self-oriented, other-oriented and socially prescribed perfectionism) and marital adjustment and sexual satisfaction and to evaluate the relationship among marital adjustment, sexual satisfaction and some demographic variables (level of education, length of marriage, having a child/children or not). Data were collected from 291 married individuals (139 male, 152 female). In this study, Sociodemographic Information Form, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Dyadic Adjustment Scale and Golombok- Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale were used as measurement tools. As the result of regression analysis, it was revealed that higher levels of other-oriented and socially prescribed perfectionism were associated with lower levels of marital adjustment while an association between higher levels of self-oriented perfectionism and higher levels of marital adjustment was found. Besides, higher levels of self-oriented and socially prescribed perfectionism were found to be associated with lower levels of sexual satisfaction while higher levels of other-oriented perfectionism was found to be related to higher levels of sexual satisfaction. The results of Pearson Correlation Analysis and T-test revealed that a statistically significant relationship was found only between the sexual satisfaction and having a child/children which is one of the demographic variables mentioned above. Furthermore, a significant positive correlation was found between marital adjustment and sexual satisfaction. The findings were evaluated in the light of relevant literature, limitations of the study were discussed and recommendations were made for further research studies.
