Otizm spektrum bozukluğu olan çocuklara dil ve talep etme becerileri öğretiminde bir tablet programının etkililiği

Abstract

Yapılan çalışmada otizm spektrum bozukluğuna sahip çocuklara talep etme becerisi öğretmek amacıyla hazırlanan tablet bilgisayar destekli konuşma üreten bir cihaz ve bu cihazın kullanılarak gerçekleştirildiği bir öğretim paketi uygulamasının etkililiği araştırılmıştır. Aynı zamanda çalışmaya otizm spektrum bozukluğuna sahip çocukların anne ve babalarının katılımı sağlanarak, araştırmaya yönelik sosyal geçerlik belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada yer alan katılımcılar; 3,5-7 yaş aralığında 5'i erkek, 1'i kız olmak üzere toplam 6 otizm spektrum bozukluğuna sahip katılımcıdan oluşmuştur. Araştırmanın modeli katılımcılar arası yoklama denemeli çoklu yoklama modelidir. Öğretim programının etkililiğinin belirlenmesinde ayrıca ön test-son test kullanılarak otizm spektrum bozukluğuna sahip çocukların gelişimsel ve davranışsal alanlarda farklılık gösterip göstermediği istatistiksel olarak tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma bulgularına göre tablet bilgisayar destekli konuşma üreten cihazın ve öğretim paketinin, otizm spektrum bozukluğuna sahip çocuklara talep etme becerisi öğretiminde etkili olduğu görülmüştür. Katılımcıların öğretim oturumları sonrasında talep etme becerisini farklı ortamlara ve kişilere genelleyebildikleri belirlenmiştir. Sosyal geçerlik açısından ise otizm spektrum bozukluğuna sahip çocukların anne ve babalarının tümünün tablet bilgisayar kullanımına ilişkin olumlu düşünceleri olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Anne ve babalar, özellikle çocuklarının tercihlerini daha net ifade ettiklerini belirtirken, bir aile ise çocuklarının 'istiyorum' kelimesini daha sık kullanmaya başladığını vurgulamıştır. Öğretim programı ardından yapılan ön test-son test sonucunda genel gelişimsel puanlara ilişkin ön test ve son test puanları arasında anlamlı farklılığın olduğu görülmüştür (p<0.05). Otizm spektrum bozukluğuna sahip çocukların davranışsal alan puanlarına ilişkin ön test ve son test puanları arasında ise istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık belirlenmemiştir (p>0.05).

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness a table-aided speaking device and instruction package to teach requesting skills to children with autism. Also, the social validity of the research was determined by the participation of parents of autistic children. Participants ot the study involved a total of 6 children, consist of 5 male and 1 female, who aged between 3.5 and 7. The model of the research was multiple probe across participants design. The effectiveness of the instruction package was determined by using the pre-test and post-test statistically, and interpreted whether the children with autism differed in terms of developmental and behavioral domains. According to the findings of the study, it was determined that the speech-generating device and the instruction package were effective on teaching the ability to request of children with autism. It was suggested that subjects can generalize their requesting skills to different environments and peopel after teaching sessions. In terms of social validity, it was observed that all parents of children with autism had positive thoughts on the use of tablet computers. Parents stated that their children have started to express their preferences more clearly, and emphasized that they have started to use the word 'I want' more often. As a result of pre-test-post test, there was a significant difference between the general developmental scores of children with autism (p<0.05), However, there were no statistically significant differences were found between the scores of behavioral domain (p> 0.05).
