Abstract
This research was conducted to evaluate the psychological resilience of nurses and to determine whether the socio-demographic characteristics of nurses differ significantly with their psychological resilience. The research population consists of nurses working in a training and research hospital. In this research, no sampling method was used as it was voluntary to participate in the study. 263 nurses consisting of 201 females and 62 males participated in the study. The data in the study were collected using psychological resilience scale and personal information form for adults. For analyzing the data, among descriptive statistics number, percentage, average and standard deviation were used while among non- parametric tests Kruskal Wallis F Statistics and Mann Whitney-U Test were used. Moreover, Bonferroni binary comparisons were used to determine the source of differentiation. The nurses who participated in the study are between the ages of 20- 45. It was found that 76.4% were women, 65.4% were single, 71.1% were university graduates and 7.2% had chronic diseases. The average score of nurses on the Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults is 128.34. Average point that nurses got was with its lowest as 15,95 for future anxiety and the highest as 28,12 for social sources among the sub-dimensions of scale. The sociodemographic characteristics of the nurses were compared with the psychological resilience scale and it did not differ significantly according to age, gender, number of siblings, chronic disease status, seniority, weekly average working time, and taking education related to the unit they work for. On the other hand, there is a significant difference in accordance with marital status, education level, working unit, duration of work in the unit, average number of night shifts in the month, employment type, happiness and satisfaction while performing the nursing profession. According to the research findings suggestions have been made in order to identify nurses with low psychological resilience and at risk, to take protective measures, to create solutions for the problems they face, to provide training on psychological resilience and to improve psychological resilience. Key words: Nursing, Psychological Resilience, Psychosocial Problems
