Abstract
In this study, the mediating role of self-constructs in the effect of family climate perceived by individuals on attachment styles in romantic relationships was investigated. In addition, the relationship of family climate with both self-constructs and attachment styles in romantic relationships was analysed, and it was investigated whether the family climate and self-constructs perceived by the participants change according to their demographic characteristics. Participants consist of 420 individuals who are literate, have an emotional relationship for at least 6 months, speak Turkish, are of age and live in Istanbul. 55% of the participants are women and 45% are men. The family climate of the respondents was determined by the family climate scale developed by Bjönberg and Nicholson, the attachment styles in romantic relationships with the experiences in close relationships (YIYE - II) scale developed by Brennan et al. measured with a self-scale. SPSS 23.0 package program was used to analyse the data. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the family climate variable caused a significant difference in both the individual's self-constructions and attachment styles in romantic relationships. However, it was concluded that the family climate did not play a mediating role in the self-constructions of individuals in the relationship between attachment styles in romantic relationships. However, it was determined that some demographic variables of the participants caused a significant difference in family climate and self-constructions.
