Abstract
In this study, the relationship between fear of COVID 19, anxiety symptoms and eating attitude in adults was examined. 350 people participated in the research. 'Sociodemographic Information Form', 'Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ)' 'COVID 19 Fear Scale', COVID 19 Anxiety Scale' and Beck Anxiety Inventory' were applied to the participants. Comparison and relational statistical analyzes were made with the data collected from the responses of the participants to the questionnaires. Independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were applied to compare participants' fear of COVID 19, anxiety and eating attitudes in terms of sociodemographic variables. Pearson Correlation was applied to examine the relationship between fear of COVID 19, anxiety and eating attitudes. Hierarchical regression analysis was applied to examine the predictive effects of COVID 19 fear and anxiety and generalized anxiety on eating attitudes. Based on the findings, it was found that there were significant differences in the fear of COVID 19, anxiety and eating attitudes of the participants in terms of gender, employment status, marital status, COVID 19 diagnosis, psychiatric diagnosis variables. When the relationship between fear of COVID 19, anxiety and eating attitudes was examined, it was determined that emotional, restrictive and external eating attitudes were positively and significantly related to fear of COVID 19 and anxiety. In addition, it was concluded that the anxiety levels of the participants significantly predicted their eating attitudes. Emotional eating was found to be the most predicted eating attitude by anxiety and fear of COVID. The results obtained provide recent data in terms of understanding the connection of both generalized anxiety and fear and anxiety related to the COVID 19 epidemic with eating attitudes. It can be considered that psychological symptoms, which can be evaluated as the consequences of fear of COVID 19 and anxiety, will be useful both in further research and in practice.
