Abstract
The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between quality of life and daytime sleepiness in children with asthma. The descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in the Gaziosmanpaşa Training and Research Hospital, pediatric clinic between January and September 2020. The population of the study consisted of children who were followed up with a diagnosis of asthma in the pediatric clinic of Gaziosmanpaşa Training and Research Hospital, and the sample consisted of 400 asthmatic children between the ages of 12-17. The data were obtained using the Personal Information Form, the Asthmatic Child Quality of Life Scale, and the Pediatric Daytime Sleepiness Scale. 51% of the asthmatic children in the study group were male and the mean age was 13.78 ± 1.55 years. It was determined that 62% of the children had more daytime sleepiness problems in children whose daily activities were affected due to asthma (p <0.001). As the number of days in which sleep was disturbed due to asthma increased in the last month, the quality of life of the asthmatic child decreased (r=-0.451, p<0.001) and increased daytime sleepiness (r=0.668, p<0.001) seen. A negative correlation was found between the quality of life of children with asthma and daytime sleepiness (r = 0.723, p <0.001). One-unit increase in the number of disturbances in sleep patterns decreased the quality of life of the asthmatic child by 3.225 (p <0.001). As a result; It was determined that there is a significant relationship between quality of life and daytime sleepiness in children with asthma. Quality of life decreases as daytime sleepiness increases.
