Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the nutritional knowledge, nutritional status and body composition of female football players in Turkey. The study was carried out with the participation of 102 female football players who voluntarily participated in the study in the women's football teams of the Turkish Football Federation between September 2022 and November 2022. Sociodemographic and general information of the participants, with the questionnaire form; nutrition knowledge levels with Sports Nutrition Knowledge Scale; evaluation of nutritional status, with a 24-hour food consumption record for 2 days, one training day and one non-training day; evaluation of physical activity status, with a 2-day individual physical activity record form, one training day and one non-training day; body compositions were determined by the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) method. The mean age of the participants was 21.01±3.23 and the average body weight was 56.06±7.45 kg. When the food consumption of the football players is evaluated, the average daily energy consumption on the training day and non-training days, respectively, is 1598.04±205.86 and 1591.3±208.42 kcal, and the total energy consumed is 40.88±12.54 and 41.98%± It was determined that 12.71 of them were met from carbohydrates, 21.38%±20.43% and 19.37±4.09% from protein and 40.53±7.76% and 39.51%±8.03% from fats. . When the energy and nutrients consumed by the footballers were compared according to the recommended daily food intake, it was observed that 99% of them were insufficient in carbohydrates, 31.4% were insufficient in protein, 46.1% were adequate in protein and more than 91.2% in fat. According to the results of the Sports Nutrition Knowledge Scale, it was seen that 99% of the participants had poor sports nutrition knowledge level. There was no statistically significant relationship between Athlete Nutrition Knowledge Scale scores and anthropometric measurement and body composition measurement averages (p>0.05). As a result, in this study, it was seen that the nutritional knowledge levels of the athletes were weak, and the nutritional knowledge levels were not related to the body composition and nutritional status.
