Abstract
This research was conducted as a descriptive study with the aim of determining the psychological resilience of nurses working in Istanbul after the February 6 earthquake. The universe of the study consisted of 35.067 nurses actively working in public and private healthcare institutions in Istanbul, and the sample comprised of 400 nurses who agreed to participate in the study between July and September 2023. The data of the study were collected through an online survey conducted via Google Forms, utilizing a Demographic Introduction Form and the Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults (PRSA), with the voluntary consent of the nurses. The findings revealed that the average score of nurses on the Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults was found to be 125,29. It was found that the psychological resilience of those who lost their first-degree relatives due to the earthquake and those who expressed no fear at all regarding the earthquake was significantly higher. In terms of the subscale results of the Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults, it was determined that men had a higher perception of the future compared to women, undergraduate nurses had higher family adaptability compared to postgraduate graduates, married nurses had higher social competence compared to singles, and nurses who lost their first-degree relatives due to the earthquake had significantly higher self-perception, future perception, structural style, and social resources. It was also found that nurses who did not seek psychological support due to the February 6 earthquake had a higher perception of the future. In conclusion, recommendations were made for organizing trainings aimed at enhancing the psychological resilience of nurses working in Istanbul to earthquake and disaster situations.
